Prices are quite good. Good miso soup. The problem is this server. She initially told us they had no high chair when we got there- then ended up bringing one once she saw we decided to stay. Not sure if she actually didn’t know they had one but it seemed like she had been working there a long time. Basically this server served us extremely begrudgingly and rudely the entire time. I normally don’t leave reviews but she rolled her eyes at the end of every remark. I am not joking. Actually, she didn’t even bring us tea until we ordered! We asked for some water or tea and she said do you know what you want? She also didn’t grab us menus until we asked. They had three servers working and weren’t very busy. Then at the first drop of food from my baby she rushes over and starts picking it up. She literally said to my baby’s face (1 year old- he was whiny but i was tending to him as best I could) “baby why are you crying so much?” And not in a sympathetic way. This is literally the first time I’ve ever experienced such horrendous service with a child. I am telling you neither my friend nor I did anything to provoke this and as someone who has been in the food service myself we just understand and accommodate for children and babies. It’s called LIFE. I was sooo shocked to say the least from this Korean server. She was only apologetic when I said in Korean myself- we will be sure to clean up ourselves afterwards” when she came back again to clean the floor up around my baby- like what? Let people finish their meal… I got my friend to pay while I packed up our food and left. It wasn’t even that busy she was just so rude and hostile towards my child and us. Not sure if it’s her specifically but clearly not friendly towards children,...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this restaurant on and off for the past seven years, and I’ve always enjoyed their food. However, today was an extremely disappointing experience. I found a hair in my dish—not something I usually make a big deal about. I simply informed the server and was prepared to remove it and continue eating.
But the red-haired waitress interrupted me before I could even finish explaining. Without any apology, she took my dish away, only to return later with a curt, “Do you want me to remake it?” After that, she completely ignored our table—no check-in, no tea refill, nothing.
My wife and I live in downtown Vancouver and have brought family here before, including my mother-in-law who was visiting today. We were hoping to share one of our favorite local spots, but instead, we had one of the worst service experiences we’ve had in years.
The food remains great—no complaints there—but the service we received today did not reflect the quality of the restaurant.
I wasn’t planning to leave a tip, but the Korean waitress who came by midway through at least cleared our plates and made some effort to provide basic service. I ended up leaving a 10% tip, which, in my 17 years in Canada, is the lowest I’ve ever paid. The red-haired waitress spent her time chatting in Japanese and made no effort to handle our complaint professionally. Frankly, even 10% felt too generous for that kind of service.
If I had cash, I would have given the tip solely to the Korean waitress. Though her English was limited, she understood her role and carried it out with respect.
It’s unfortunate to lose what used to be one of my favorite...
Read moreWe started just looking for any place to eat and stumbled into Sushi Den. We were greeted by a young friendly Japanese girl that took us right to a table. We thought maybe we were reading the menu wrong as being foreign to Canada maybe the prices were wrong. Everyplace we ate in Vancouver was expensive whether the quality was horrendous or good. We had a good variety as we both ordered miso soup to start then a single bowl of Udon and three rolls. Service was so fast as we had not finished the miso and the rolls came out. And by the time we made room for them the Udon was there. Very hot was the Miso and Udon. We did not have one waitress, it seems this place has everyone of the young waitresses working together to give you the best service. When my green tea was gone, one of the waitresses showed up with a fresh pot of green tea fill it. When I took the last gulp of my beer there was one ready to take the bottle and ask if I’d like another. Overall, we had 4 different waitresses wait upon us and we felt spoiled to be taken so well cared for. Not rushed, just being made sure that we had everything we could want. Two beers, two miso, Udon and three rolls came to a total was $45.83, then I tipped 20%, fantastic deal for Vancouver. Did I mention that the rolls were not tiny but rather a mouthful with each bite? My wife loved them as the were basic sushi, not the fancy stuff with all that fatty sauces the squirt all over them. If we are ever in Vancouver by the Costco near Expo, you can bet we...
