The initial introduction was quite quick since I made a reservation for two at 8;30 pm. We were seated right away and first greeted with the server. How I wish we could have asked for another table since this table was almost tipping over, we were seated at the patio area, being cold was not a problem since the heater was running. Mind you the anticipation of trying a restaurant for the first time with GOOD REVIEWS always gets to us, noticed how I emphasized that a bit; will get to that in a moment. So our server greeted us and we told her that it was our first time here and would be glad to know what she recommends, she pointed out a few things on the menu and we told her we just needed a few mins to decide further. After that she came back and still mentioned what she recommended and the bottom line is we were kind of stuck in the middle with what to decide cause there were so many choices. We finally got to the point with the ones we picked on our own and what she also recommended. At first we didn’t see anything much since she was very adamant on wanting us to order the ones she recommended, it may seem like it was our fault for agreeing but her body language did not suggest otherwise, its hard to see anything when you put your emotions first. Also, manipulation tactic was good, servers do this all the time. Her attitude was not genuine, wish we caught that at the moment. I only say this is because she is very tip hungry, since ordering more food and making sure we agreed to what we ordered from her recommendations will make her more tips, Iykyk. Aside from that, when the food arrived and we got our first few bites of the dishes, I noticed that seasoning and more depth of flavour was lacking. I felt that it was a bit watered down, especially the lentils it was almost like soup to be honest. I’ve had my fair share of Indian foods in eastern side of Canada as well as in Asia, I felt like the level of authenticity was not there. It was highly westernized. I look for depth of flavour and some sort of balance that can really tie the dishes on my tongue, flavor that sticks with you till you swallow kind of thing. I did not get it here at all. The lamb simmered till it fell off the bone but a few bites I did not even taste the onions or garlic or the spices, a lot of the dishes we ordered tasted quite bland. After a few bites we started getting really full, I mean we were starving so we were left with no choice but to eat. We wanted to try a dessert, and my mom loves the Indian rice pudding so much that she wanted to try it here. When the server came back we told her we wanted the pudding, but she insisted that we try another dessert but we told her we just wanted one, its like she kept pushing us to get more but we clearly stated no and wanted just the rice pudding. We received the rice pudding and it was good, it was creamy, fresh, and a bit on the heavier side cause the rice and cream. After a few mins we received the bill with the 5 dishes and 2-3 more basmati rice, we ended up spending $200, which was a complete waste for the price. Wish it was tasty in our liking, the price was definitely TASTIER.
Look, people will always agree to disagree everything in life, this is just my personal opinion as a professional cook. In the end of the day, you can have a better experience than I did. I just wished it was more tastier than the price. Also the service was lacking, lacking a lot of Genuity and very obvious in hoping to get lots of tips that night because when punching in the tip, according to my moms observation she gave a very “BOMBASTIC SIDE EYE” attitude. Her energy changed and didn’t even give us a smile when leaving. Just cause it is in the busier side of town, or expenisve looking restaurant doesn’t mean things aren’t always going be good. Just keep that in mind. I just don’t see the point in coming back, there are far more delicious places with affordable reasonable prices for Indian food here...
Read moreOur recent visit to Tasty Indian Bistro in Yaletown, Vancouver, was a mixed bag of experiences that left us somewhat disappointed. While the restaurant had its strengths, it also had some glaring weaknesses that detracted from our overall enjoyment.
Let's start with the positives. The restaurant's interior boasted a modern and aesthetically pleasing decor. The atmosphere was indeed inviting, creating a great first impression. However, there was one significant downside that affected our dining experience: the music. It was played at a volume that made conversation difficult and hindered our ability to enjoy our meal in peace. The excessive loudness seemed unnecessary and detracted from the overall ambiance.
Unfortunately, the disappointments didn't end there. The food, which is usually the star of any dining experience, left much to be desired. We found the flavors to be rather ordinary, lacking the depth and authenticity that one would expect from an Indian bistro. The only saving grace was an appetizer called "chop," made from soya, which stood out among the otherwise lackluster offerings.
One of the most disappointing aspects of our visit was the service. Our server, who was not of Indian descent, was not only unhelpful but also displayed a noticeable lack of respect and understanding of our preferences. When we attempted to provide instructions on how we wanted our naan prepared, she dismissed our input with a rude comment about the chef's expertise. This attitude left a sour taste in our mouths, and to make matters worse, the naan we received did not meet our expectations. The service, overall, was subpar and not up to the standard one would expect from a restaurant.
Parking was yet another issue we encountered. The lack of available parking spots near the restaurant forced us to park three blocks away, making the journey back to the restaurant quite inconvenient.
In conclusion, our visit to Tasty Indian Bistro was marred by several disappointments, including ordinary food, unsatisfactory service, and parking difficulties. While the modern decor and the appealing ambiance were notable, they couldn't compensate for the overall lackluster experience. Regrettably, we won't be returning to this establishment in the future, as we believe there are better Indian dining options available in the...

What truly sets Tasty Indian Bistro apart, though, is the impeccable service. The waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable, and eager to assist with any requests. They took the time to explain each dish, making recommendations based on my preferences, and even accommodated dietary restrictions with ease.
The ambiance of the restaurant was also worth mentioning. The elegant decor, soft lighting, and comfortable seating created a warm and inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a delightful meal with friends or loved ones.
