Unfortunately, my experience at this restaurant was very disappointing. I ordered a chicken burger for my son and Tom Yum soup for myself. The prices were quite high for this kind of food — $12.99 for the burger, $3 for fries, and $15 for the soup with an extra $3 for prawns. The chicken in the burger was burned to a dark brown color and thinner than 1 cm, nothing like the picture on the menu. When I mentioned it to the staff, the cook said that all their chicken is cooked this way and that making it golden would mean it’s “uncooked inside.” Since he burns all the chicken like that and considers it normal, he offered to make a beef burger instead of chicken. My son has diabetes and had already taken his insulin, so I couldn’t ask for a refund and had to accept the remake. The beef burger looked very plain — honestly worse than a McDonald’s hamburger. My own order was even worse. I found a hard, sharp piece of plastic (about 1×2 cm, shaped like a triangle) in my soup — luckily, I noticed it before eating. The staff apologized and offered to remake the dish, but I asked for a refund instead. The soup itself was poorly made: it tasted like Tom Yum paste mixed with water, with only a few mushrooms and prawns, and no vegetables at all. Overall, it was an unpleasant and unsafe first experience, and I definitely...
Read moreThis Thai Away Home is not a brick-and-mortar restaurant, but a cloud kitchen located in Club Kitchen, a collection of cloud kitchens that can be ordered together for takeout or delivery or eaten in the small dining area. The website is the best way to order since you can order ahead, but there is an electronic kiosk there if you prefer to order once you arrive. This dining area is staffed by one or two liaisons who are usually friendly and can help you order if you need it. The dining area is not terribly comfortable for dining in because it's so bare, a little small, and the entire space catches the breeze whenever the door opens when it's cold out. But it gets the job done if you just want a place to sit and eat your meal while it's fresh. As for Thai Away Home itself, it was so-so. Not offensive, but I don't think I'd order food here again. I got a combo for one with tofu basil stir fry with bell pepper. Good flavour to the stir fry, but too oily for me. The hot and sour broth was also oily and the few bits of onion and carrot were very mushy. The salad was fresh and I really liked the dressing. Not cheap at $20, but lots of food. The Thai tea and Thai coffee were both good. I would consider getting a drink again while ordering food from another Club...
