Mel's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Woodstock

Mel’s Fish and Chips has some really great seafood. The portions are big and the food comes hot! The store is unique. You can tell they’ve been in business a long time as the interior is older they have nice painted murals on the walls. The chairs are the redish-orange kind you’d find in a school which is interesting but they do the job. There’s a map of where customers have came from to enjoy this food, which is neat. Because it’s an old building, the washrooms are not wheelchair accessible as you have to go to the basement to use them. Takeout fish is still wrapped in newspaper which is fun. They have an open kitchen with the deep fryers facing the customer so you can see, hear, and smell the sizzle. The only (potential) downside to this is that if you eat in, and sit near the kitchen, you will leave smelling a little like deep fry which you’ll notice later on. It just means you had a good fish and chip meal! The store is clean, the staff friendly. They bring lots of vinegar (white and malt) to the table and lots of tartar sauce. Phenomenal. Every single time. Phenomenal. The fish is delicious. The fries are delicious. Together; I think you know where this is going, but in case you do not, Delicious. Don't waste your time getting fish and chips from anywhere else in the city. Just save yourself some money and get them from Mel's because they are phenomenal. And their COLESLAW??? We stumbled upon this gem on our vacation after hitting the antique mall and boy were we glad we found Mel's! 🙏 the lady who served us was so very friendly we instantly felt comfortable and my daughter loved her! She even gave her a sticker we ordered the special pollock and chips and my daughter got chicken nuggets and a caramel sundae everything was perfect!! I don't think I have ever tasted anything so delicious in my life the chips were sweet yet salty and amazing the fish was not dried out it was so juicy and fried just right !!
