My family and I (brother, busband, kids and I) stayed at Amerindia for two nights last month (Dec 2018). I am so glad we choose this establishment over others. We booked the family room, which turned out to be really large - basically we had two rooms that have their own attached hallway. It afforded a lot of space, privacy, and two bathrooms! (really helps when you are a party of five). We peeked into the other rooms. They are not crazy large like ours, but they were still spacious and charmingly decorated. That said, these are the other reasons we highly recommend this hostal (it is really more a cute b&b):||1. Beds were comfortable (very important)||2. The common areas (with the wood stoves) are comfortable and charming. ||3. The onsite cafe (that also sell wine) serves a good breakfast. The cakes are divine. You can also get yourself a glass of wine or coffee and sit by the fire or at the tables outside and people/dog watch (a lot of friendly stray dogs in Chile)||4. The staff are wonderful and friendly. One of them, I forget her name, helped me make a dinner reservation because my spanish isn't proficient enough. ||5. Talk about dinners, Amerindia is just two mintues' walk away from two awesome restaurant in Puerto Natales - Lenga and Aldea (Don't forget to make your reservations). ||6. Amerindia is located close to the water (nice for a stroll) and has nice shopping around it. It is about 1.5 miles (or 2.4 km) from the bus stop (coming in or going to Punta Arenas), close enough for a cheap taxi ride but not so close you are in a less than charming neighborhood. The area around Amerindia is nice. ||7. Last but not least, Amerindia does not do laundry, but there is a laundry...
Read moreStrolled around and got one last glimpse of Puerto Natales before heading to the airport. Stepped into Amerindia, a hostel with a vegan-friendly menu, for lunch. The interior brings the outdoors in with exposed wooden ceilings propped up by two trunks near the center of the room that divide the front entrance from the dining area.
Puerto Natales is an outpost for those trekking Patagonia and the stores carry everything. Same thing with the restaurant menus. At Amerindia, the sushi sits comfortably between the pizza and the croissant sandwich. The menu is convenient and functional, and when it has things you can eat, itâs very filling. Kept it light with potato celery soup, lentil patty salad, and fries on the side. Also has a good selection of local brews...
Read moreI didn't stay in this hostel but the cafe and shop held a special place in my heart! I stopped in Puerto Natales on the way to Torres Del Paine park and had a few hours before my drive. I stopped in this town to see some really sweet shops and cool churches and plazas. My family is from Chile and the north part of the country isn't known to be the safest but down here in Patagonia felt VERY safe.
I walked by the water which was very windy and cold and craved a warm drink. We found this cafe walking toward the town and stopped in. I think I stayed for around an hour just enjoying myself with a coffee and pastry. It's been around two years since I've been and I still have really warm feelings...
