Casa Lastarria — Restaurant in Santiago

I do not recommend this place if you're vegetarian. I ordered the vegetarian pastel de choclo, but was served one containing meat. As a lifelong vegetarian, this was a deeply upsetting experience. It is the first time I’ve ever been served meat at a restaurant. Unfortunately, it is also the first time I’ve eaten meat in my entire life. I was incredibly disappointed and frustrated.

To make matters worse, the server was not particularly apologetic. They eventually brought out a vegetarian version, but it was poorly cooked and clearly rushed. When the bill arrived, not only was I charged the full price, but a 10% tip had also been added automatically. When I raised the issue again with the man handling the bill, he dismissively remarked, ‘but you only ate a small bit!’

Popular place with tourists and a bit pricey, but great food and great location. It is located on a cute little court with several Italian restaurants, but we were looking for a restaurant that served Chilean dishes. This place hit the spot, and it had great outdoor seating. They have menus in English, and our waiter spoke English well. We had the beef carpaccio as an appetizer, which was great - served with grated cheese, some toasted bread, and capers. This restaurant was recommended by locals and we decided to try it. Started with a ceviche to start with and it was excellent. For entrees we had a salmon dish and quinoa with shrimp salad. Did not particularly like the salmon dish and were glad that we had ordered the second entree. The quinoa shrimp salad was good with decent portion size.
