Istanbul Express Turkish Restaurant — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

Decor looks like it's a typical local Hong Kong restaurant - feels like I am in cheap eatery with bad wallpapers. Nothing from turkish decor, not even the plates.

As we came in, we looked for a table in the restaurant (it was 80% empty) but the waiter hastily sat us next to the exit and said "sit here". The service was non existent, we basically had to fight for our food not to be taken away, the waiter couldn't help himself but come over and try to clear our unfinished plates at least 3 times ( maybe they ran out of plates?). Nothing Turkish about this place besides the two people who work here and they don't even cook anything. The chef was sitting around in the dining area and watching tv - what a life! As we paid, the staff just handed the bill and the credit card without a single word.

The food was mediocre at best. We had hummus which tasted watered down, no seasoning.. Everything else was greasy and not good at all. Do not trust the photos of the food on their menu, maybe this is what food looks like back at home in Turkey but not here....

Save yourself some money and time and go somewhere else.. Way to let down such an amazing cuisine...

In Wan Chai, when I'm in the mood for a simple meal, I often go to a local kebab shop and have a beer. However, this time, I ended up at a nearby Turkish restaurant, which was quite empty when I arrived at around 9 pm, with only one other table of customers.

I ordered the Beef Kebab, Turkish Fried Spring Roll, Turkish Salad, and a Turkish-style Lemonade. Before the food arrived, they had already provided us with a selection of sauces, including a tomato-based one and a spicy one, which I thought was a nice touch.

When the dishes were served, I found the Turkish Salad to be a bit underwhelming in terms of flavor, so I added some salt to it. The Beef Kebab on the other hand, was quite enjoyable, with the meat cooked well and the various accompaniments complementing the flavors nicely.

The Turkish Fried Spring Roll was a pleasant surprise, with a delightful cheese filling that paired well with the other dishes.

Overall, while the meal wasn't bad by any means, I still prefer the kebab shop next door, which I find more satisfying and better suited...
