I was able to dine at DTF twice in Hong Kong. The walk-in line is always short and the pricing is “relatively” more affordable. Read on for the comprehenaive review of all my favorites: *Steamed Pork Soup Dumpling 小籠包 After all these years, DTF’s xiao long bao still has a special place in my heart — thin wrapper and juicy meat fillings. The temperature and dumpling size are just perfect. *Spicy Pork & Veggie Wonton 菜肉紅油抄手 *Fried Pork Chop Egg Fried Rice 炸豬排蛋炒飯 My second top recs are the spicy pork & veggie wontons + fried rice combo. My taiwanese friend taught me to drizzle some spicy sauce over the fried rice — chef’s kiss. The scallion egg fried rice is flavorful and the pork chop is grilled to perfect tenderness. *Spring Onion & Soy Sauce Dry Noodle 蔥油拌面 If you are more into noodles, you should definitely get their scallion mixed dry noodle. It is bursting with flavor and I saw many tables ordered the same dish. *Braised Wheat Gluten 上海烤麩 *Braised Beef Soup 紅燒牛肉湯 Our go-to sides to enjoy with the dumplings and mains. *Steamed Taro Paste Dumpling 荔芋小籠包 *Steamed Mini Black Sesame Bun 迷你黑芝麻包 For dessert, it is interesting to try the taro paste xiaolongbao. It is not too sweet and the taro filling is smooth. The mini black sesame bun is packed with nutty and earthy flavor.

You can always count on Din Tai Fung for the best Xiao Long Bao and this branch in Causeway Bay is no exception. The skin was thin, with tender pork fillings and rich flavored broth. The “Braised beancurd puff with black fungus” is one of my favorite Shanghainese cold dish and the one from Din Tai Fung not only had the smoothest beancurd puffs but the braised sauce had a good balance of sweetness and umami flavors. Ordered the Taiwanese version of Zha Jiang Mian for the first time and it had an interesting mixture of minced pork, sweet pickle, scallions, and beancurd. The broth of the “Braised beef noodle soup in Taiwan-style” wasn’t rich enough and there was only one piece of tendon. Would be nice if they can distribute the shank and tendon equally. Usually the “Egg fried rice with spring onion” is very flavorful, but today’s one was very bland, could use a little more salt or MSG. As always, Din Tai Fung provided efficient services and consistent decoration for all of the branches around the globe.

🐻🐻❄️情侶嘅廣東話食評,都post咗喺Instagram @bear.couple.food 啦😆 ———————————— Din Tai Fung in Causeway Bay is very famous among tourists. As two locals, 🐻🐻❄️ wonder what the experience would be like 🐻🐻❄️. Let’s give it a try! Xiaolongbao (Soup Dumplings) HKD$70 The dumpling skin is very thin👍🏽 and full of soup inside, it is very delicious😋. Scallion Lo mein HKD$60 If it’s the first time you try Taiwan “lo mein” then worth a try. Decent taste but nothing special from a local perspective. If you have eaten lo mein alike then may reserve your tummy for other dishes. Spinach Shoots in Garlic Broth HKD$78 It looks very good👍🏽, but it's a bit oily when eating. Tarot Root Xiaolongbao HKD$58 This is actually a desert🤣. When you taste it, there's a subtle taro flavor. The skin is also so thin that you could hardly notice. Better adding one more rice or noodle even if you just have two people like us. The portion size is more suitable for those with a small appetite. We ordered four dishes and still had room for another dessert🤣🤣. The service is good💁♂️💁🏽♀️. The taro dessert is reserved to serve at the end, and the staff pays attention to our dining progress. When they saw that we had almost finish all the main dishes, they proactively ask if the dessert could be served. They even change the utensils and plates for us to enjoy the dessert👍🏽. In conclusion, the overall food quality is quite well, especially for tourists. However, 🐻🐻❄️ as a local feels that there aren't many surprises except the xiaolongbao, it's totally worth a try👍🏽.

Against my good judgement and intuition, I step into Din Tai Fung, thinking this may be the one branch that justifies the much hyped about Michelin star, putting the ones in malaysia to shame. Food is terribly mediocre. Nothing wrong with the food, but definitely not deserving any sort of star, Michelin or otherwise. The signature Xiao Long bao is just passable, with far far better examples in nondescript shops in Shanghai even in touristy places like nanjing road. As you can see from the 4th picture, the soup didn't really fill up the XLB as it should (like in their ads). The drunken chicken meat is stringy and dry, despite being drenched in shaoxing wine, which shows that it was overcooked, and the skin not as bouncy as you'd expect of such a dish. Next, dessert - taro dumplings. Let me just say I've had better taro dumplings at 7 eleven. For all this, I can only blame myself. The red flags were there, I ignored it: high ratings were only from foreigners and there were no locals in sight. Also they charge you 9 bucks for the mandatory tea. 2 stars were given for their service, operational excellence, ambience and design (which is world class) but I can't give any more in good conscience.

You really can’t go wrong with Din Tai Feng. It is always a crowd pleaser for almost all types of palates. The food at the Causeway branch is consistent with other branches I have eaten at around the world. Food: 5 stars Service/environment: 3 stars Value: 4 stars Recommendations: Xiao long bao, chili oil dumplings, shrimp fried rice Dim Tai feng is always in the conversation for best dumplings in a given city. Their chili oil dumplings in my opinion are the best I have ever had. The fried rice and xiao long bao are also near the top of the list for these items as well. The pricing is comparable to other international locations. Given how expensive eating out in Hong Kong is makes Din Tai Feng a good value relatively speaking. The restaurant interior is probably one of the worst that I have been to. The lighting is poor and the tables are too close together. The service at Din Tai Feng typically is quite good and I would say here is ok at best.

A local website recommended this place and having flown in to Hong Kong for the first time a few hours beforehand we thought we would give it a try; we are so glad we did. Right from the start there was something welcoming about this place. Large street level windows showed you could see what you were getting, we were shown straight away (no queues ) to a window seat and given the extensive menu. Ordering was a simple process and we were served with a succession of well prepared items. We particularly liked the hot and sour soup, the breaded pork and the dumplings. The custard buns were my favourite. Prices were more than reasonable, though we were a little bit surprised to be charged for the tea which as it was on the table waiting for us we assumed it a courtesy offer. We would gladly return to this place.
