🐻🐻❄️情侶嘅廣東話食評,都post咗喺Instagram @bear.couple.food 啦😆 ————————————
Din Tai Fung in Causeway Bay is very famous among tourists. As two locals, 🐻🐻❄️ wonder what the experience would be like 🐻🐻❄️. Let’s give it a try!
Xiaolongbao (Soup Dumplings) HKD$70 The dumpling skin is very thin👍🏽 and full of soup inside, it is very delicious😋.
Scallion Lo mein HKD$60 If it’s the first time you try Taiwan “lo mein” then worth a try. Decent taste but nothing special from a local perspective. If you have eaten lo mein alike then may reserve your tummy for other dishes.
Spinach Shoots in Garlic Broth HKD$78 It looks very good👍🏽, but it's a bit oily when eating.
Tarot Root Xiaolongbao HKD$58 This is actually a desert🤣. When you taste it, there's a subtle taro flavor. The skin is also so thin that you could hardly notice.
Better adding one more rice or noodle even if you just have two people like us. The portion size is more suitable for those with a small appetite. We ordered four dishes and still had room for another dessert🤣🤣.
The service is good💁♂️💁🏽♀️. The taro dessert is reserved to serve at the end, and the staff pays attention to our dining progress. When they saw that we had almost finish all the main dishes, they proactively ask if the dessert could be served. They even change the utensils and plates for us to enjoy the dessert👍🏽.
In conclusion, the overall food quality is quite well, especially for tourists. However, 🐻🐻❄️ as a local feels that there aren't many surprises except the xiaolongbao, it's totally...
Read moreVery disappointed of the foods quality, even it once was fameous brand fm Taiwan, to China, n Hk. Tonight we had ordered most of their offering in menu, across the board. Fm Crab roe Xia Long Bao, noodles of Shred pork with veg , Wine marinated chicken , Deep fried pork fillet fried rice, Pea Sprouts, the yellow fish, Tofu green bean noodles soup, and even ordered most kinds of the sweet bun and cake. None of the foods impressed me. Even their signature Dumpings, which made them fameous in Tapie in 90s. I recalled I enjoyed their tasty little Dumpings when Din Tin Fung opened their second branch in Taipei, it was good and juicy. The noodles was up to Taiwan standard too even it was not the best. But tonite, the most expensive Crab roe Xiao long bao was tasteless, not juicy any. The body soup of 雪菜肉絲湯麵 noodles was plain taste, not matched that I often had in Shanghai. Only the Stir -fried Pea Sprouts 豆苖, the deep fried pork but not the rice, and the Wine Chicken were good and up to standard. The worst one were the sweet buns , I think a lot of Hk Chinese Restaurants made such buns much better than them. Skin dried, and its stuffing not have favor. I wondered why my foreigner friends came here , is because of the fame name, or the modern deco looks? It was not worth for what we paid. The old days of their offered in Taipei was only memories. My old Taiwanese friends shared with same comments on too. I didn't took...
Read moreA bit substandard compared to other franchise locations. Came here for lunch on a summer Tuesday and noted the following specifics:
One perennial perk of eating at a Din Tai Fung is the fact that their dishes are not only cooked perfectly; they’re also allowed to REST perfectly in the kitchen prior to being served. For example, Xiao Long Bao, which are notorious for their scalding pocket of soup, are usually rested to the perfect temperature for putting in your mouth, by the Din Tai Fung kitchen. But not at this location. Our kids had to do what they usually do at lesser restaurants - poke them full of holes to let them cool, and waste most of the juices in the process.
The steamed chicken soup, another famous delicacy at Din Tai Fung, is normally bursting with incredibly rich chicken flavour. The soup we had at this location was merely ok; like something you’d cook at home from a novice combination of chicken bits, ginger, water and spice.
The decor and atmosphere at this location seemed to invoke your typically noisy, crowded, street-side HK eatery manned by overworked staff; more so than the upscale dining experience that is Din Tai Fung. It’s a big contrast even to their sister location in Tsim Sha Tsui.
I’m a big fan of Din Tai Fung and have eaten at locations throughout Asia and the US, so these deficiencies were pretty obvious. But, it’s still a decent (albeit expensive)...
