What started off as a good experience ended up turning into a negative one. The food itself was nice and fresh; despite the high prices, we enjoyed our meal (although whether the quality justified the prices is debatable… but not the main point of the review).

What went wrong was when our bill came, they charged us an extra bottle of sake –that’s an extra $646 when you include 10% service charge. We informed the staff, who said they made a mistake and will sort it out. Fair enough, these accidents happen and are understandable, and we didn’t blame them. However, when the revised bill came it was still wrong, because after they deducted $646 from the bill, they added a second 10% service charge on top of the first 10% fee that was already added i.e. they added a 10% charge twice, which totals to a 21% service charge. This meant they only deducted $150 from the incorrect bill, which should be quite obviously wrong without even having to do the maths. We then explained again, and it took a lot of back and forth for them to admit or realise they made another mistake…? At one point the waitress also said she will “give us a 10% discount by removing the 10% service charge” but the thing is we were actually being incorrectly charged 10% twice. We just wanted to pay the correct and fair amount; we weren’t trying to swindle a discount out of them nor did we get one.

So whilst we enjoyed the food, our experience was soured by this, and we no longer...

Located at the heart of Causeway Bay, Hika is a contemporary Japanese restaurant with a variety of Japanese food. Helmed by Chef Fei, who has multiple experiences working in restaurants in Japan and Hong Kong, all the dishes we tried that day, showcased his talent and passion in cooking. And the interior design of the restaurant exudes Zen vibes with one of the corner being furnished into a private tatami area overlooking the streets of Causeway Bay. 🦪Oyster Imported from Rikuzentakata, the oysters were huge, slightly crunchy and contained a very distinct sea water flavors

🦀 Snow crab and shrimp tempura roll $238 Outstanding combination with contrasting textures and overloading freshness

🍣Sashimi Platter Fresh and sweet scallop, melt in the mouth toro and botan ebi

🍲White miso pot with amakusa chicken $488 A rare chicken breed which has a leaner meat than normal chicken. White miso soup was very addicting and perfect for the cold weather.

🥩Grilled A5 Wagyu It is that needs no description

Everything from attention to detail, the carefully articulated menu to the hospitality of the owner, manager, workers and skillful chefs has been a wonderful delight. The menu was absolutely stunningly crafted, along with the exceptional taste and freshness of the curated imported daily fish selection. I am completely blown away by not only the craftsmanship of each and every dish that was served to me but utterly left in awe after every single bite. My only regret is, why did I not order more? The only answer is to return and try multiple selections again, as well as explore the rest of the otherworldly items that Hika has to offer.
