Generally regarded by local gourmets as the leading up market Cantonese restaurant in Hong Kong, it has one Michelin Star instead of three, and nobody cares. But the general feeling is that the standards have gone down in recent years, perhaps as a result of the business family fragmenting over a long running feud and chefs move away. I don't know enough because I don't frequent it enough. It puts me off to have to fight the teams of bodyguards and press with camera to catch celebrity patrons caught in the middle of some scandal, which is most of the time. I was there recently, at a lavish celebration banquet. One of the dishes that I have not had before was birds nest stuffed inside a pigs stomach and steamed for hours on end, then served in a chicken broth with a bit of the chicken. There was general complaints from gourmet friends that evening, that this tightly packed birds nest is not the real stuff, and the soup was too salty. Well, I found it excellent. This really is the place to come to for sharksfin soup, birds nest soup and the rest of it. A single serving of sharrksfin soup will set you back USD $130. So you can imagine what some expensive dishes will cost. But this is the place that you do feel if you have to ask you cannot afford...

Not what I expected. This restaurant is too stuffy for a comfortable dim sum… my kids were not happy with this pick… lol

We felt a bit out of place. We were looking for a more traditional Chinese yum cha spot… but somehow ended up trying this. You order on the sheet. And they bring you the dim sum. The prices are on the high side. Not for your average day to day dim sum!

While the dim sum was good, the shrimp dumplings were bouncy and sweet, the churn fun.. tastes like churn fun, the taro toast was good but honestly, we would have been so much happier at a local yum cha spot… it was so quiet in the restaurant, not crowded… so my kids felt awkward. It’s the vibe of stuffy and old, not young people vibe. We just wanted to eat, finish and leave. The selection wasn’t very expansive… so feels like it lacks innovation. We probably wouldn’t come back for dim sum but maybe dinner with friends - like adult dinner.

A Michelin restaurant frequent by many HK tycoons and celebrities. The decor not extravagant but grand enough. Very spacious seating and comfy, nice ambient to dine in. The waiting staff especially Candy is courteous and friendly.--5* The Foie Gras with pickle ginger is simple and tasty.--4.5* The stuff crab has thin and crispy layer. The stuffing is up by crab meat and sauted white onion. It is flavourful, but onion seen to overpowered the crab meat taste.--4.5* The Huadiao wine chicken is a MUST order here, it takes about an hour to prepare and is done to perfection. The fragrant of the Chinese Wine, integrated well with the tender chicken. The sauce is balance, very additive.--5* The Eight Treasure duck with salted egg is tasty, skin has the right textures. Due to long hours of cooking, meat tad on dry side.--4* An enjoyable dinner, corkage for wine is...

Although dim sum/yum cha is meant to be just down to earth and a bit manic, it’s also interesting to see the other side of it where it’s refined to a higher level and with more sophistication and care. The dishes were all great and some uniqueness to it. The baked bbq pastry stood out to us as the pastry was well done along with the bbq pork inside making for an awesome bite. We also liked the rice rolls and siu mai. The other dishes were good too and delivered on what’s to be expected. Would I say dim sum should be this kind of experience? No, but it is definitely worth it to try it this way and Fook Lam Moon is a Michelin starred restaurant so why not try their dim sum.
