Dinner at The Garden Lounge The Murray with family on a weekday night.
Nestled in Central's prestigious business district, The Murray Hong Kong stands as an architectural masterpiece with its sleek modern design surrounded by lush greenery. The Garden Lounge on the lobby level offers a sophisticated urban oasis with high ceilings, abundant natural light, and elegant greenery creating a refreshing ambiance.
Service shines as the restaurant's strongest asset. Attentive staff provide polished yet warm service throughout the meal, demonstrating excellent knowledge of the menu and wine pairings. The team's professionalism elevates the overall dining experience significantly.
The culinary offerings present a mixed performance. The chilled seafood selection delivers standard quality with fresh oysters being the clear standout, offering perfect briny sweetness. However, the crab legs disappoint with excessive saltiness. Mains like the grilled ribeye steak are competently prepared to requested doneness and the flavor is quite good. The dessert selection provides a satisfying finish with varied choices from rich chocolate creations to light fruit tarts, all well executed.
While the food doesn't quite match the excellence of the setting and service, The Garden Lounge remains a compelling choice for its prime location, refined atmosphere, and impeccable hospitality. It earns a solid mid to high rating as an ideal spot for business dinners or special occasions where ambiance matters most. The experience would benefit from more consistent execution in the kitchen to match the venue's other...
Read moreCame here mainly to check out the architectural design by Norman Foster. The building renovation itself is stunning but the hotel and garden lounge service were disappointing. The atmosphere is 5 stars but service is nowhere near 4 stars.
Soon we arrived at the hotel by taxi, the staff at first appeared attentive and helped to open the door, soon they noticed that we did not have luggages, they walked away and didn’t even hold the doors open for us. The restaurant staff were unfriendly, unhelpful and gave us just one menu between two, walked away without even asking if we wanted water.
We asked about the drink selection menu, the staff did not have clear knowledge what the exactly the tea were. And diverted the topic about extra charges on those teas, which clearly wasn’t responding to our concern. Throughout the whole meal, no one came to ask if we were happy with the food or the service.
At least now I have seen the building design, I don’t think I will visit here again given there are so many much better 5-stars hotels in the central area that actually provide 5...

We did not want the semi buffet 2 or 3 course lunch so ordered off the menu, as you can’t just order the salad and antipasti bar, which we would have happily paid a premium for.
Ordering a la carte turned out to be bad, as clearly these dishes are an afterthought left to the underlings. Underwhelming school lunch pasta and meatballs and a dreadful spicy chonging style chicken clearly made with frozen chicken - likely hoping the half kilo of dried chilis would hide how dry and tough it was. Literally the dish was just dry stringy defrosted chicken, dry garlic, and dry chilis - like kids playing in the kitchen.
When both plates were picked up half eaten ( and we clearly were less than satisfied ) we were encouraged to scan a QR code to join their club to get 25% of the next meal. Wow. Read the room. But service was about as welcoming as petrol station throughout, so at least consistent. )
The Murray Hotel itself is easily one of the best in town but won’t...
