Quite good quality food and a beautiful and atmospheric environment.
There were a few things that disappointed however.
When I arrived I was wearing shorts which is against the dress code so the staff provided me with trousers to wear. The door staff then told me in a condescending tone that I “must not have read the confirmation email which contained the dress code policy” I found this pretty galling and unnecessary because the comment was totally unprovoked : I did not at all query the dress code policy as I totally accepted it was my mistake to not adhere to it. Maybe I should’ve just questioned as it seems I was going to be spoke to rudely anyway.
Next issue is that our table wasn’t ready in time which is not acceptable for a restaurant at of this standard (especially in light of the standards that they expect customers to adhere to…)
We were therefore offered a chance to wait at the bar. We ordered aperitifs which were grossly over priced at nearly 200 HKD each. They were also of very poor quality - my Negroni tasted very weak and bland and was mostly ice, something which is a disgrace at these prices. In addition, as soon as we placed the drinks order the table was conveniently ready…it made me wonder if it was ready all along and saying it wasn’t was a strategy to get us to order these over priced bar drinks…
When ordering food, infuriatingly the waitress queried every choice we made saying “maybe we should try this or that instead” or “this or that isn’t enough” etc etc. It really felt like the staff were attempting to get us to order more expensive items
Finally we were asked if we wanted water and we chose still water. We assumed this meant one bottle but when the bill arrived we discovered weed been charged for THREE bottles. It is pretty outrageous not to be told that several (overpriced) bottles will be opened for us. In addition, the bottles were never left on the table so I’ve no way of knowing if we actually drank all 3 (and am highly doubtful we actually drank as many as three…)
Overall a very disappointing and frustrating experience in which I felt like I was treated without respect and that I was just seen as someone the restaurant was trying to milk as much money out of as possible. I’ll not be back and wouldn’t recommend...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Grand Majestic Sichuan in Hong Kong, and I must say, it was an exceptional culinary experience that deserves a five-star rating. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a taste of authentic Sichuan cuisine.
From the moment I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The elegant decor and comfortable seating created the perfect ambiance for a memorable dining experience. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, making me feel welcomed and well taken care of throughout my visit.
Now, let's talk about the food. The dishes at Grand Majestic Sichuan are simply outstanding. Each bite was bursting with flavor and showcased the bold and spicy flavors that Sichuan cuisine is known for. From the fiery Mapo Tofu to the mouthwatering Kung Pao Chicken, every dish was a delight to the senses. The ingredients were fresh, the presentation was impeccable, and the portion sizes were generous.
One of the highlights of my dining experience was the extensive menu. Grand Majestic Sichuan offers a wide variety of dishes, catering to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Read moreHi Luca, below is my humble opinion.
I have always enjoyed my experience with blacksheep restaurants. The food and the customer service have always been enjoyable if not top notch. However, I have given Grand Majestic a 3 star because 1) it’s not the best when compared to my other blacksheep restaurant experiences 2) the food was not very impressive for the price point.
Food - for someone who really likes sichuan food, the dishes were not impressive and most things are on the sweet side. 夫妻肺片 (fu qi fei pian) - this is the best dish of the four we had. Echoing some of the other reviews where they say food is spicier than anticipated for a restaurant chain that often caters to a more western style taste bud. This dish had good flavors and spicy but a bit on the sweet side 水煮魚 (shui zhu yu) - an average dish. And i think the plating can be improved - it kind looks like a big bowl of soup with nothing much in it, see photo for reference) 麻婆豆腐 (ma po dou fu)- I know the sauce is made with wagyu beef, but neither the sauce or the spices stood out. Also on the sweet side 擔擔麵 (dan dan mian) - it came highly recommended by the staff so I did have a high expectation. It was not the sichuan style, dry dandan noodle, and it lacks the “rough” spiciness sichuan dishes have.
Service - It was obvious that the staff was quite new and were not very organized. After we sat down, there seemed to be confusion of who is responsible for our table (there were quite a number of staff, and maybe three tables) and we got multiple visits in the first five minutes.
Decor - it truly embraces the name of the restaurant, everything is very “majestic” and “grand”.
Overall, I feel that it caters well to people who want a fancy business lunch, but for people who genuinely want to have an authentic sichuan meal, this will not be on the...
