So, this was my first experience to this establishment. The Kam's Roast Goose Restaurant is conveniently located on Hennessey Road, no.226 to be precise at ground level with a relatively conspicuous shop sign. The restaurant primarily serves roasted meats with the roasted goose being the main signature dish reflecting the restaurant name. So, we ordered roasted goose, Soy sauce-marinated chicken, blanched choy sum, steamed preserved pork sausage and duck liver sausage and spring onion with ginger thin Chinese noodles as well as white rice and a portion of roasted pork with crispy skin.
Seating... cramped... uncomfortable and designed for short term sitting... common with such places so as to silently usher diners to hurry and move on after about 30 minutes, after all, the premises was quite small, which I suppose accounted for the cozy atmosphere. The service was basic, not particularly fast and while the waiters and waitresses were few and gruff looking, they were nonetheless still relatively polite and did their job.
Unfortunately, they were out of roasted pork, that's Char Siu... so, I wasn't able to try that. So, the roasted goose, was marinated with fermented brown beans, rather unusual than the traditional Chinese Five Spice but still tasted quite good and the meat was tender but the skin wasn't at all crispy as one might expect of roasted goose, so that was a bit of a letdown. But at least the meat was warm.
The soy sauce chicken was quite good and the meat was moist. Could have done with more sauce in the serving dish so that the diner could add more flavor to the meat by choice. The duck liver sausage was very good with a well balanced mix of flavors reflecting excellent sausage making skills from their suppliers. Meanwhile, the pork sausage was quite good and it used the pig intestines for sheathing, which is the higher quality for preserved sausages... the lower quality uses synthetic cellulose and can be seen after cooking.
The serving of roasted pork although cold, had nice crispy skin and the meat was tender. So, it was quite good, even though, warm would be better.
The vegetables were blanched till tender and served up neatly, tasted tender and juicy. The rice was nice and hot. The noodles were nicely done but I couldn't make out any ginger flavors in the taste. The bill totalled just over HK$800.
The restaurant has apparently been awarded 1 Michelin star consecutively for the last 8 years ... quite an achievement but, to be honest, personally, I don't think the restaurant merits such high acclaim. Still, the restaurant is quite good overall and worthy...

I visited Kam Goose on Sunday 1st September at around 6pm. I waited about 1hr and 10 minutes. Seeing that I was from Perth and have come a long way, I ordered 1/4 goose and 1/2 soya chicken just so i can try both.
Now the service was very abrupt. There was no 'niceness', which was fine. Sometimes these types of establishments just want to churn people in and out. So service wasn't great.
Now for the food - it was quite dissapointing. The goose was extremely wet and greasy - the soya chicken was luke warm and slimy. The skin was filled with congealed fat. Both skin didn't have that 'crisp' that roast meat should. I feel I've had better food from a neighbourhood chinese shop in Perth. I honestly didnt understand what the fuss was about seeing as these type of roast places exists everywhere in Hong Kong.
I want to note that the food and service was not great to begin with, but an incident with the staff members made the whole experience unpleasant. I am not a petite woman, and I'm fine with my body size. When I got there and ordered, the waitress was trying to tell me not to order the soya chicken but I said I'd like to try it. When the food came out, one of the older male servers passed me speaking in his language and laughing. He then yelled something out to one of the other workers, and in a few minutes all the workers were looking and laughing in my direction. I asked one of the customers there who said that they were all making fun of my size, and what I was eating.
Hurt, I continued to eat without giving them any satisfaction that they affected my mood at all. But what really put the icing on the cake was the cashier taking 'photos' of herself but it was really an excuse for her to get me in the background. I was not imagining it, she was angling the camera to get a photo of me and my table of food (which again was just two meat items and rice).
On my way out, I told the cashier how I hope she enjoyed the photo and she feigned confusion. I left the restaurant feeling really dissapointed not just over the food but over the complete disregard of manners. Its crazy to me that this place is awarded a michellin star because that kind of display of awful human behaviour shouldn't be rewarded at all, especially when the food is subpar.
Zero stars if I could - and if the waiters ever end up reading this, I hope you never have to feel shamed the way you...
Read moreWe visited Kam’s Roast Goose in Wan Chai expecting a legendary meal after hearing so much buzz. Sadly, it was a huge letdown from start to finish.
First, the wait: we stood outside for 2 hours under the hot sun. It felt like the disorganized line system was designed to confuse rather than help. A female staff member kindly gave us a number when we put down our name, but what followed was frustrating. A tall young male employee came out calling numbers — only in Chinese. When we politely asked what number he was calling, he gave us a fake smile and walked away with another group. No explanation. When I approached again, he looked annoyed and snapped, “Ma’am!” in a rude tone. All we needed was clarification. The lack of basic courtesy was shocking.
Now the food: • The roast goose had a slight duck-like smell — not overpowering, but noticeable enough to be unpleasant. • The skin was not crispy at all, just wet and greasy, like it had been soaked in oil. • The flavor leaned sweet, lacking the savory depth or seasoning you’d expect from a Michelin-starred place. • As for the “special” ginger tea — it was just boiled water with ginger and sugar. Nothing special at all.
After a 2-hour wait, we were expecting something memorable. Unfortunately, the food was average at best and the service made it worse. The only friendly face was the woman who took our name — everyone else seemed indifferent or outright rude.
If you’re really curious about how it tastes, come and order a small to-go portion which will be fast, just a 10-15 mins wait.
Definitely won’t be returning or...
