Top 3 foods to eat in HK 🇭🇰 ⇨Roast Goose- from Yat Lok or Kam’s Roast Goose, both are good! If you have time, I would suggest eating at both (cash only, fast service, barely any english workers)🍗🍜🍚 ⇨Dim Sum- There’s so many great dim sum spots in HK, the one we tried was called One Dim Sum. Everything we ordered here was delicious!! Not a single bad item!! (cash only, sit down, english workers and menu)🥟🥢🥡 ⇨Cha Chaan Teng (HK style Café) - When in HK, you have to dine at one for the experience! They have a variety of items such as macaroni soup, noodles, baos, egg tarts, scramble eggs, and hk milk tea! To be honest, the food is average but can’t complain cause its comfort food at a very low price!🫖🍳 • • • • • #hk #hkfoodie #hkfood #hongkongfood #hongkongfoodie #hongkongmusteat #hongkongtrip #hongkong2023 #hkfoodblogger #hkfoodporn #hkfoodshare #hkfoodielife #wheretoeathk #traveltohongkong #hkfoodblog

So, this was my first experience to this establishment. The Kam's Roast Goose Restaurant is conveniently located on Hennessey Road, no.226 to be precise at ground level with a relatively conspicuous shop sign. The restaurant primarily serves roasted meats with the roasted goose being the main signature dish reflecting the restaurant name. So, we ordered roasted goose, Soy sauce-marinated chicken, blanched choy sum, steamed preserved pork sausage and duck liver sausage and spring onion with ginger thin Chinese noodles as well as white rice and a portion of roasted pork with crispy skin. Seating... cramped... uncomfortable and designed for short term sitting... common with such places so as to silently usher diners to hurry and move on after about 30 minutes, after all, the premises was quite small, which I suppose accounted for the cozy atmosphere. The service was basic, not particularly fast and while the waiters and waitresses were few and gruff looking, they were nonetheless still relatively polite and did their job. Unfortunately, they were out of roasted pork, that's Char Siu... so, I wasn't able to try that. So, the roasted goose, was marinated with fermented brown beans, rather unusual than the traditional Chinese Five Spice but still tasted quite good and the meat was tender but the skin wasn't at all crispy as one might expect of roasted goose, so that was a bit of a letdown. But at least the meat was warm. The soy sauce chicken was quite good and the meat was moist. Could have done with more sauce in the serving dish so that the diner could add more flavor to the meat by choice. The duck liver sausage was very good with a well balanced mix of flavors reflecting excellent sausage making skills from their suppliers. Meanwhile, the pork sausage was quite good and it used the pig intestines for sheathing, which is the higher quality for preserved sausages... the lower quality uses synthetic cellulose and can be seen after cooking. The serving of roasted pork although cold, had nice crispy skin and the meat was tender. So, it was quite good, even though, warm would be better. The vegetables were blanched till tender and served up neatly, tasted tender and juicy. The rice was nice and hot. The noodles were nicely done but I couldn't make out any ginger flavors in the taste. The bill totalled just over HK$800. The restaurant has apparently been awarded 1 Michelin star consecutively for the last 8 years ... quite an achievement but, to be honest, personally, I don't think the restaurant merits such high acclaim. Still, the restaurant is quite good overall and worthy of visiting.

Quality of food: 4/5 - the roast goose was very juicy and packed with lots of flavour. The skin was crispy and paired well with the goose fat and lean meat. I was disappointed that they were out of stock of the lower quarter which would have been more tender than the upper quarter/lean meat that we ordered. The barbecue pork was also very tasty not too fat or too skinny. Avoid the crispy roast pork, it was a bit cold and not worth trying. Cleanliness: 5/5 - clean restaurant with not much seating. Service: 5/5 - good line management, we had to wait around 30m at 12pm on a weekday. The server gave us a number card as priority is given to first come. They took our order quickly and food came shortly after. Value for money: 4/5 - quite expensive restaurant but worth trying one of the Kam family restaurants. I would not wait in line for more than 30m, suggest you order take out and eat at a nearby park if the line is too long. Recommendation: 4/5 - worth a detour from your trip to try the roast goose at this restaurant. I was disappointed there was no lower quarter goose available especially 30m after opening. Nevertheless the upper quarter goose was tasty as was the barbecue pork and worth a try. Do not wait more than 30m, get take out instead.

Don't visit this place if you don't have a lot of time in Hong Kong or if you have some sensitivity around your body. I visited Kam Goose on Sunday 1st September at around 6pm. I waited about 1hr and 10 minutes. Seeing that I was from Perth and have come a long way, I ordered 1/4 goose and 1/2 soya chicken just so i can try both. Now the service was very abrupt. There was no 'niceness', which was fine. Sometimes these types of establishments just want to churn people in and out. So service wasn't great. Now for the food - it was quite dissapointing. The goose was extremely wet and greasy - the soya chicken was luke warm and slimy. The skin was filled with congealed fat. Both skin didn't have that 'crisp' that roast meat should. I feel I've had better food from a neighbourhood chinese shop in Perth. I honestly didnt understand what the fuss was about seeing as these type of roast places exists everywhere in Hong Kong. I want to note that the food and service was not great to begin with, but an incident with the staff members made the whole experience unpleasant. I am not a petite woman, and I'm fine with my body size. When I got there and ordered, the waitress was trying to tell me not to order the soya chicken but I said I'd like to try it. When the food came out, one of the older male servers passed me speaking in his language and laughing. He then yelled something out to one of the other workers, and in a few minutes all the workers were looking and laughing in my direction. I asked one of the customers there who said that they were all making fun of my size, and what I was eating. Hurt, I continued to eat without giving them any satisfaction that they affected my mood at all. But what really put the icing on the cake was the cashier taking 'photos' of herself but it was really an excuse for her to get me in the background. I was not imagining it, she was angling the camera to get a photo of me and my table of food (which again was just two meat items and rice). On my way out, I told the cashier how I hope she enjoyed the photo and she feigned confusion. I left the restaurant feeling really dissapointed not just over the food but over the complete disregard of manners. Its crazy to me that this place is awarded a michellin star because that kind of display of awful human behaviour shouldn't be rewarded at all, especially when the food is subpar. Zero stars if I could - and if the waiters ever end up reading this, I hope you never have to feel shamed the way you made me feel 💕

Has a high expectations as it has multiple Michelin 1-star award. But it turns out to be a disappointing experience. Arrived on a weekday late afternoon, waited for about 30min to get a table (not bad at all). Ordered a roast goose, roast pork, bowl of rice and rice noodle. Only upper quarter is available, otherwise I would prefer lower quarter as I prefer the goose leg as usually it is more tender, flavourful. Their signature roast goose if I’m honest, at best it’s just good. Goose is well seasoned and flavour is good, not too salty which happened a lot in low quality roasts goose. But the goose is served warm barely. The skin is not crispy anymore. As a roast goose specialty, I would expect it can withhold the standard and serve it piping hot. Roast pork (char siu) again nothing special, it was tender and well seasoned again. But it’s just warm and lack of crusty edge. Rice and rice noodle again standard Chinese restaurant quality. Probably the rice is quite fragrant though. What confuse me is how this restaurant can have the Michelin 1-star. It’s a typical cha-chaan-tang standard, small, crowded and basic service. It is nowhere near a poorer Chinese restaurant, no to mention a Michelin level. I might be unlucky that day that food was not as good as it should be. Overall , just above average roast goose. I believe there are lots of places that can deliver similar standard.
