La Petite Maison – Escargot Heaven in HK? Oui Oui! Rating: Taste: 7.5/10 Service: 6.5/10 Ambiance: 6/10 Tempo: 6.5/10 Damage: $$$$ (~HKD1500/head)
If escargots had a five-star hotel, this would be it. La Petite Maison (LPM) is hands-down my #1 spot for those buttery little snails 🐌 drenched in garlic and parsley goodness. And listen, do not—I repeat, DO NOT—waste that garlic butter. Soak it up like a French god with bread until the plate looks cleaner than your skincare goals.
They nail the Mediterranean-French chic vibe—with a nice nod to the French Riviera (minus the yacht). First thing you notice? A tomato and a lemon chilling on the table like it’s totally normal. DIY salad, anyone? You literally slice ‘em, drizzle olive oil, and boom—you’re now a French chef with table-side flair.
Now, let’s talk must-orders: • Burrata: Creamy, dreamy, and served with juicy tomatoes and olive oil. Simple. Fresh. Iconic. • Escargots: See above. Life-changing. • Baby Chicken: Crispy skin, juicy meat, pure joy. If comfort food wore perfume, it’d smell like this. • Lamb Chops: Herb-packed, juicy, and done to perfection. Chef’s kiss. • Steak & Tartares (beef + tuna): Balanced, bold, and absolutely devourable. • French Toast: Their dessert game? Strong. It’s fluffy, golden, and probably illegal in 7 countries for how addictive it is.
And yes, the tomatini is a masterpiece—imagine a martini took a sunny Mediterranean vacation and came back more cultured.
Now for the tea… This place slays on the food front, but it’s not without its quirks. Seating is tight—you might get closer to the table next to you than your own date. And the vibe from the staff? Occasionally… spicy. For a spot that’ll set you back HKD1500 per head, you’d expect a bit more warmth, maybe even a smile or two thrown in free of charge.
I usually end up here because my friends love it (and to be fair, it is solid for birthdays, brunches, and bougie celebrations), but it’s not always my first pick. Still, if you’re craving Riviera elegance, a killer tartare, or the best escargots in Hong Kong, you really can’t go wrong.
Would I go back? Yes—for the escargots, burrata, and tomatini trio. Would I bring someone special here? Definitely—romantic enough for a date, fancy enough for a flex. Would I come weekly? Not unless I...
Read more8 of us went to LPM on a very busy Saturday evening in mid-Sept to celebrate birthday. Bar is a big part and it was one of the noisiest restaurants I have ever been too. It was full house and you literally have to yell when talking. This is just not an elegant French restaurant suitable for a date or relaxing conversations. We sat near the entrance and smoke from cigarette kept flowing into the restaurant from outdoor seats. Our table was narrow, so unbearable that we had to request moving it towards the bar. Bread – you could choose either sliced plain or wheat baguette, tasted normal, came with olive and butter.
Appetizer – shellfish salad is made with crab and lobster and the meat are fresh and sweet. Beef tartar was fresh and tender, I think it could have stronger mustard sauce with higher acidity though.
Main dish – ribeye steak was tender with good fat content, flavourful and cooked nicely to medium. Unfortunately, beef pasta was way over seasoned – extra saltiness has spoiled the nice Ragout sauce.
Chicken with Foie Gras was a $1198 signature dish for sharing. Large portion and well cooked, the chicken was tender, juicy and flavourful. Foie Gras was as good as it could be, though it didn’t quite blend into the chicken, maybe its better when eaten as a standalone dish. There was a piece of baguette in the chicken soaked with all the fat and flavour, a bit tough to bite but it got all the essence from the dish. The chicken itself was a good one but perhaps not superb, I think it was a frozen chicken.
We also ordered few other salads and pasta, they were okay but not outstanding. We finished the meal with French toasts, they are like crème brulee covered in pastries. Quite a nice twist.
An important note that bottled water is priced at HK$85, and waitresses were very eager to get us more of them. No wonder – we didn’t know the price until we had the bill, and we simply think they're not worth. We later found out that they do serve free tap water, but one of the waitresses gave us a clear indication that they don’t prefer serving that.
The final bill was around HK$4.7k. Solid cooking, good at meat. But at this price point, there are restaurants with the same quality and portion but better environment, and hopefully less pricey bottled water that bring no value to the...
Read moreFood was great - service was terrible.
I am taking the time to write this because of how strongly I felt about the lack of service that happened on Friday, September 23. What should have been a great evening with fabulous food was spoiled by the inattentiveness and lack of service we received. Our server did not pay attention to us at all after he had written down our order - we had empty water glasses and empty wine glasses. We had ordered escargot, which was gorgeous in flavour and we wanted bread to sop up the garlic butter sauce, it took no less than 20 minutes of waiting, and asking 3 separate people to bring us bread. To our chagrin, the mains came, as they would, it had been 20 minutes, but we still had plates full of garlic butter sauce and no bread. We again then asked a server to please bring us bread. They never came back to bring bread. At this point, it was laughable what was happening. My husband had to actually get up to speak with someone because though there were servers and managers wandering around the restaurant, there was no proactivity in helping guests. Once we got the bread, the sauce went from piping hot to lukewarm, as it would over a 20-minute wait period and our mains were sitting there also getting cold. None of the servers had the foresight to help us change out our plates so that we could eat our mains, so we waited another 15 minutes (!!!) My husband wanted to leave. I said no. The evening was long since ruined. The great food (which I stand by) cannot solve or rectify the poor service. This would never happen at a place like Carbone, where they actually value service and their food is fantastic as well. LPM has a long way to go in training their staff, especially if it categorizes itself as a fine dining restaurant. I was surprised that when we finally spoke to a manager, they weren't more mortified at what had happened. We definitely won't be coming back to LPM and I will make sure that none of our friends experience this...
