TokyoLima, a fusion restaurant blending Japanese and Peruvian flavors, offers a unique dining experience in terms of ambiance and friendly staff. However, there are a few aspects that left a less-than-ideal impression during my visit.
Firstly, despite having a reservation, my party was seated at the bar in a dark corner with minimal lighting. It was disappointing to see empty two-seater tables that remained unoccupied throughout our time there, yet we were refused to be seated at those more comfortable spots. This decision was puzzling and frustrating, as it seemed unnecessary given the available seating options. If you have taken the necessary steps to reserve a table - you should be seated at the table
The lack of lighting in the corner where we were seated posed a significant challenge. It was difficult to see what we were eating, resulting in a lack of food pictures for my review. Additionally, pouring sake became a guessing game, as the darkness made it nearly impossible to gauge the amount poured, leading to accidental over-pouring.
While the food at TokyoLima is undeniably delicious, the portion sizes can be deceiving. The menu features a "large portions" section intended to serve two or more people, but in reality, they barely suffice for a single individual. This discrepancy between the menu description and the actual portion size was unexpected and disappointing, especially in a reputed restaurant.
Another issue worth mentioning is the difficulty in opening the entrance door. It was noticeably challenging, and I witnessed several girls breaking their nails while attempting to open it. Even for the guys, it required a considerable amount of effort. This inconvenience at the entrance detracted from the overall experience and left a negative impression.
Despite these drawbacks, TokyoLima does have redeeming qualities. The ambiance is generally pleasant, with a lively atmosphere and attentive staff who are friendly and accommodating. The fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavors in the dishes creates a unique and enjoyable culinary experience.
In conclusion, TokyoLima offers a mixed experience. While the ambiance and friendly staff contribute positively to the dining experience, the issues i faced detracted from the overall enjoyment. It is my hope that the restaurant addresses these concerns to provide a more consistent and satisfying experience for...
Read more⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spectacular Evening at Tokyolima – Elevated Nikkei Journey & World‑Class Hospitality ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐We hosted a group of out‑of‑town guests (8 in total) at Tokyolima two nights ago, and the experience was nothing short of outstanding. The food was consistently impressive, but what truly set the night apart was the personable, intuitive hospitality led by Lorenzo, the general manager. He didn’t just “serve” us—he curated, anticipated, and genuinely cared.Lorenzo’s Hospitality – A Masterclass in Genuine CareFrom start to finish, Lorenzo struck that rare balance: knowledgeable without being preachy, warm without hovering, polished yet personal. 1 He read the rhythm of the table perfectly—every course arrived with unforced timing. 2 Explanations were tailored: just enough culinary and cultural context to deepen appreciation. 3 Subtle service choreography—glasses refreshed, settings cleared, preferences remembered instantly. 4 Most notably: A guest with a toothache was gracefully accommodated with a beautifully simple, soothing bowl of soft udon noodles—served without fuss, equal in care to the tasting menu items. That gesture resonated with everyone.
Tasting Menu (Tokyo) – A Thoughtful Flavor ArcA deliberate progression from bright and playful to deep, savory resonance, then a layered, uplifting finish.
For Future Diners 1 Choose the tasting menu on a first visit; it tells the story. 2 Communicate any needs—this team listens. Save appetite for dessert; you may be pleasantly surprised with something extra. Trust Lorenzo’s instincts on pacing and pairings.

Read moreTokyolima is part of the Pirata Group and one of the best places around the city for Nikkei (Japanese-Peruvian) cuisine. This is a neat restaurant tucked away on Lyndhurst Terrace. Opening hours are 6pm-12am (dinner) daily and 12-2.30pm (lunch) on Saturday and Sundays. Reservations are recommended for evening dining.
Tokyolima features an open kitchen allowing you can watch the chef and team hustling in back preparing dishes. Menu includes a range of small plates, raw & seared, sushi, street-food style sticks and larger orders for sharing or you can just go with the Chef Feed Me option and try whatever the chef prepares for you.
During our visit we tried a couple cocktails, most enjoying the Akiko, a strong yet spritely gin based drink and the Inca Sour, a whisky drink with smooth and sweet finish.
As for the food, we liked everything served during our meal. The Miso & Quinoa small plate was fresh and tasty, a good way to start the evening. The Ceviche Classico was delicious. Fresh sea bass, onions and corriander went beautifully with the tiger's milk - a Peruvian citrusy marinade. This was a simple yet surprisingly flavourful ceviche.
We next tried the spicy hamachi. The yellowfin tuna was wrapped nicely, served with greens and slightly strong chimichurri sauce. This was another very good order, one we'd happily reorder.
Next was the Pollo a la brasse, a succulent half chicken grilled nicely and served with a delicious kimchi and orange marinade. This is a safe yet tasty order, something even the least adventurous in any group can easily enjoy.
For desserts we tried both the Oye Papi Xo!!! Chocolate lovers special and the Free 4 You, an orange and almond cake. Both come with small scoops of ice-cream. They were presentable and delicious, a great way to end our meal at TokyoLima.
We left very impressed with this TokyoLima. The decor is nice, service just fine and the food very good. It is a smart restaurant nicely run and very easy to recommend for those seeking interesting and different international cuisines available here...
