Apr 23: friends gathering. We browsed OpenRice and found this high rated restaurant. Many people said their Kamameshi (pot rice) is good.

We first ordered Uni (sea urchins) Oyster, it was because the supply is limited. The oysters were good but no sea salty flavor. I think it was because they washed the oysters before served. Then, we ordered their signature dish, Eel Kamameshi. However, we already baked rice by using their hourglass. The rice still no rice crust. Also, the eel was too many eel bone. The sashimi was mediocre. You can just got similar quality from other Japanese restaurants in the town. The drinks were ok.

During the dinner, the waiter came to clean up our table fourth times. It was a bit disturbing us chatting. My friend and I were paid the bill rather than stay longer.

10% surcharge need. A hot pot with water, utensils, tissues on your table, you can serve yourselves. Toilet just outside the restaurant. Can get ticket...

Poor service at the door before even entering the premises. I ordered the "Supreme Sushi set" at $158 and had to wait 20 min for it, which I didn't mind as I thought a restaurant of this decor would make the food right there and then. How wrong was I... The seaweed on my gunkan maki was mushy, so clearly not fresh and the fish on all my sushi was dry... again, not signs of this being fresh. I can find better places for this price and so will stop coming to this one. Don't let this picture of my lunch set (no filter) deceive you: it is not that appetizing. From the picture of my chawanmushi you can see how the...

[I visited Rock Salt in Apr 2020 but, I just realise, put my review and photos wrongly under another restaurant (namely Zushi Ana). So I have reposted the review and photos. Sorry.]

They offered perfectly HK style Japanese food. But they were honest and solid, serving good quality raw fish that tasted fresh at reasonable prices, unlike those pretentious fancy restaurants serving similar quality of fish, or one that might be just a touch better, but charging exorbitant prices.

I have added food...

Quite good Japanese food. They specialize in kamameshi (Japanese kettle rice). I had the salmon with sea urchin kamameshi. They were quite generous with the amount of sea urchin and the lunch set at $128 comes with many side dishes. Would definitely recommend this place. My brother had their signature oyster kamameshi, which was just as good. One thing worth mentioning is that their kamameshi comes with a generous amount of chestnuts. So enjoy if you're a chestnut lover and be careful if you're the contrary.
