We loved Master Congee so much that we went twice during our Hong Kong trip! It’s always busy, so be sure to arrive early — we came around 9:15 AM and still saw a steady flow of customers. That’s how you know it’s good.
The congee is absolutely outstanding — warm, smooth, and fragrant with rice. I ordered the abalone and fresh fish congee, and it was delicious. The fish was clean-tasting and the abalone tender. My friend had the pork liver congee, and the liver was incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked — no bitterness, just soft and flavorful.
We also enjoyed the fried Chinese dough sticks (“youtiao”). They serve two types: • The oval one is slightly sweet. • The long one is savory, and that’s our favorite — super crunchy outside, soft and chewy inside. It paired perfectly with the congee.
Don’t miss the stir-fried noodles either — simple but flavorful, and they complement the congee so well.
Despite being packed, the staff was polite and efficient. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get.
The only downside is that the restaurant is quite small, and you may need to share a table with other diners, but honestly, the food is so worth it that we didn’t mind at all.
Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Tsim Sha Tsui — congee lovers,...
Read moreAfter queuing up several times before and almost losing heart, I was determined this time to finally try it and see whether it was truly worth the hype. I arrived around 9 AM and was pleasantly surprised — the wait was only about 15 minutes. The restaurant’s management is quite impressive: they handle queues efficiently, take orders quickly, and food is served promptly in order.
I ordered the abalone and fish fillets congee. It was genuinely delicious — the fish was fresh with no unpleasant smell or bones, and the abalone was wonderfully chewy and fragrant. The congee itself was smooth and flavourful. For those who like stronger seasoning, you might want to add a bit of soy sauce.
My bf had the “Champion”, the restaurant’s signature dish, and it looked fantastic — the liver was cooked perfectly, tender and springy. He finished the whole bowl.
In short, this place is absolutely worth queuing for. Traditional flavours, generous portions of fish and meat (not just rice!), and a satisfying, authentic taste. I will definitely...
Read moreA Hong Kong congee spot that’s probably a one-time visit.
We had been trying to find late-night food for a few days while staying in the area, and that’s how we ended up stumbling upon this place. We went in the early evening, around 5–6 PM—no line, got seated right away.
The menu had enough English for us to get by. We ordered beef congee with egg, fried youtiao, and the kind that’s wrapped in rice roll skin.
The congee, which you’d expect to be the star of the show, turned out to be bland—even the meat didn’t have much flavor. The youtiao (both kinds) were standard, nothing to complain about, but nothing exciting either.
We also ordered three drinks, and the older man at the counter came over, grabbed the bill, updated it… but then slammed it down on our table— Honestly, that felt more like straight-up rudeness than just a Hong Kong-style brusque attitude.
Kind of a disappointing experience overall. Glad we tried it, but...
