I felt like I'd probably get nowhere fast when I looked up where to get a Reuben in Shanghai. I thought that even if I were to find one, that it would be on the wrong kind of bread, or that it wouldn't come with fries or worse, wouldn't include a pickle. Rest assured, Tock's relieved my every sandwich-related anxiety. The beef was flavorful without going really heavy on the salt, a common offense among Western restaurants in Asia. The menu was in English, and what you see in the picture I posted cost me ¥80, which at the time of writing equals about $12 or so, though I got water to drink (it included ice. Rare.) Although I am American, the menu included many Canadian favorites, namely poutine, which was featured at the very top of the menu. Every sandwich is avaliable in a regular or monster size, I chose regular, but the monster variety was only ¥20 more, and included more meat and probably other ingredients, but I didn't pay attention. They had club sandwiches also, and before you start feeling too guilty that you're craving so much Western food while in Shanghai, they also included smoked stock as a meat option. I would highly recommend anybody looking for a quick fix of some Western food try coming here.

For a Torontonian, the smoked meat at Tock's is better than I've had in Montreal, because all of the flavour and texture is there, but the amount of salt tastes to be less. We stumbled into Tock's, as we were seeking an alternative to Chinese food. Smoked beef pastrami I've had before, but the smoked duck was something new. A monster sandwich with 2 types of meat came with a 1/4 dill pickle, a small dish of coleslaw and lots of French fried potatoes. We split the monster, and ordered an additional side of coleslaw. That was more than enough food for us. Service is courteous and quick. The clientele seemed to be primarily westerners (Canadians?) who know what smoked meat is about.

A great relief after a week straight of Chinese food. Smoked duck club was great, and the poutine was better than I expected it to be. The service was a bit inattentive, but they speak English. The beer selection is good, and Canadien if your into that. Definitely recommended and will come back next time I pass through Shanghai. They also take western credit cards!

We ordered Reuben sandwich and Chef Salad. You could chose their choices of dressing for sandwich and salad. Good place to get your fix on some western food after some chinese food. Happy hour will earn you 1 free beer for 2 that you ordered.
