Do you want to pay more than $2.000.000 COP for 4 persons without alcohol for an instagram post and leave hungry? El Cielo Restaurant is more smoke and theatric than top gastronomía. Including literal smoke with dry ice as they serve you your coffee that is already not warm to begin with. Sadly, the best courses are the third and fourth — “Mochi de Carimañola” and “Falsa Ostra”. This leaves you for false expectations as they diminish in each course. The dishes are filled with foam to give the illusion that they are an actual course. 1 oz of protein was the most given in a course on the generous side. Most plates are simply foam and an assortment of pastes. You might as well have eaten air when eating their “Crocantes de Tubérculos”. Wine pairings are less than a taste of each, but you are definitely not paying for that. You are much better off buying a complete bottle rather than doing any of the “pairings”. In addition, service lacked the professionalism expected at this price point. Water glasses were left empty at many points of the meal and we had to ask for them to be filled. Plates were put on the table in a hurry; one course could not be finished without another being put on the table halfway through. Having chocolate poured on your hands is definitely an experience like no other; it’s not as nice when you have only licked two fingers and water is being poured to remove it to your despair. Staff seemed bothered to be there and never asked if we enjoyed our experience. Their choice of music was borrowed from the Museo del Oro and was not a great way to set the mood. In regards to the “La Experiencia”, that is the only option on the menu meaning you will be paying a minimum of 445.000 COP per person. Our waiter explained to us that every course had a deeper meaning. One that left us clueless was when they brought out thumb size desserts on a carousel playing “Rudolph the Red nose Reindeer”. Any idea what that could mean? In conclusion, the set courses are disappointing, the service is not up to par with the price point, and the atmosphere is lacking as well.
I had high hopes for our lunch in Bogota, but after leaving and heading somewhere else to satisfy our hunger I would not try this or any of their other locations.
I really wish reviews would be more honest with the ratings they give. There are definitely better options in Bogotá in regards to food, service,...
Read moreElcielo Restaurant is a high-end restaurant in Bogota, Columbia. I read some 1-star reviews on Google so I did lower my expectation. Luckily, my visit was positive. I had an early dinner there on a Monday night. There were 3 staffs eating and talking in the bar/lounge area. Another staff was making some notes for some wines at a round table. The round table appeared to be his work corner. The wines were stacked over some shelves and not in a temperature-controlled space. The bar/lounge area looked less than satisfactory. The dinning room temperature was a bit too chill. A wall full of green plants in the dining room was too heavy. My server was Kevin and he spoke good English. He did a good job and provided detailed explanations for the dishes. There were 17 items on the tasting-menu. They were not all food items. They did work hard to integrate the Columbia culture into this dining experience. One item was to place a chocolate ball in my hands then crash it. Kevin suggested me to rub the molten chocolate in my hands, then smell and taste it. The idea was to play like a child, relax and have fun. He then poured water over my hands to rinse off the chocolate. My hands smelled nicely with chocolate throughout the dinner. Coffee was one of the 17 items. The dripped coffee was prepared at the table. After pouring the coffee into the cups, Kevin poured some dry ice into a round bowl. The dry ice created a large flow of white smoke over the table. Kevin explained that it symbolized the white mist in the Columbia mountains from which the coffee came from. At closing, Kevin dropped some warm wax on my hands and suggested me to rub the wax with my hands and smell it. It had a nice aroma and my hands felt silky. I have had tasting menu in many high-end restaurants in many cities and countries. Elcielo topped the performance part and provided a very unique experience. Well, I would not go there for their food but rather enjoy it as a show. It is all about...
