Unfortunately, this restaurant was the worst one my boyfriend and I dined in not only in Cartagena, but I would even dare to say during our whole trip in Colombia. Food was not bad (but nothing out of the ordinary compared to all the other restaurants we visited in Colombia, including Cartagena), but service was just awful!!
Our waiter was very unfriendly and seemed to be annoyed by the fact that we didn't order any alcoholic beverages nor desserts. The worst part though, was when one of my bags fell on the floor and even though our waiter saw how I was struggling to get it from the floor from my side of the table, he didn't even ask if I needed assistance. I felt very uncomfortable getting up from the chair and BENDING MYSELF FORWARD with the waiter standing behind me, just looking. In no other restaurant did I ever experience something like this. I'm not expecting anyone to get my bag from me, but in any other place and in any other country I have visited, I have encountered friendly people that at least asked me if I needed help. Additionally, when we paid, he didn't even say thank you nor good bye and just left.
Something that also disappointed us, was that after we expressed our feelings to Julian (which is supposedly the service manager) and the receptionist, they asked me for my Whatsapp number stating that they would contact me the day after in order to make it up to us and that we couldn't leave Colombia with that impression of this restaurant. Needless to say, they never came back to us. My boyfriend and I don't need any place giving us food for free, but it just left even a worse after- taste having the service manager tell you that they will get in touch and then nothing happens. Makes you really wonder if they take customer feedback seriously.
If you are in Cartagena, do not come to this restaurant, there are way better restaurants there with better food and service (please visit ALMA Restaurant!! It's probably one of the best restaurants we have ever eaten at in the...
Read moreMar Y Zielo is undeniably a stunning restaurant, with a beautiful ambiance that makes for a great first impression. The décor is thoughtfully curated, and the location itself is very inviting, offering a lovely setting for a night out.
The service was also commendable. The staff were attentive and polite, making sure we were comfortable and addressing our needs promptly. They definitely added a positive note to the experience.
However, the food and drinks didn’t live up to the expectations or the price. We ordered four starters, and while they were presented nicely, the flavors were rather bland and uninspired. For the cost, I expected a much higher level of culinary quality.
The cocktails were also a letdown. They looked appealing but were lacking in both flavor and balance. It felt like they focused more on the presentation than the actual taste.
In the end, we left after just the starters, feeling that the experience didn’t justify the high price. While the atmosphere and service were good, the food and drinks just didn’t deliver. It’s a lovely place, but if you're looking for an exceptional dining experience, there are better...

Experience: 3 stars. We booked the second floor but was placed on the rooftop. When I went back down to reception she said we could move and go to 1st floor. When I got to the 1st floor the lady was talking to the ground floor via ear piece and then said to me that we had to sit on the rooftop. I stated I was told we could move and she said that “no, sit on the rooftop”. I went back to the ground and the lady then said we booked the rooftop and to just sit there. Terrible attitude from both of them and started things of sour. The rooftop has multiple unnecessary fans and feels like a strange waiting room for something. Food: great food, well presented and plenty of options Alcohol: solid wine and cocktail selections on offer. Rooftop: tables are tiny, perfectly fine for cocktails, but not for 3 people with water, wine and dishes. Seats were also at different heights which was uncomfortable.
If we were able to sit where we booked and the entrance staff weren’t rude, this would be a...
