Tldr.. Good food, good service, good ambience. You will be happy you came here. I really wish I could do 4.5 star. I don't give 5 star easily, I'll usually round down to a 4, but this place is worth the 5 if on effort if nothing else. Aside from being the best Steakhouse I've found in Cartagena, this is as close to a true high end streak house experience as you're going to find in Cartagena. The negative... Poor wine list (there was one just ok bottle), and first cooking instructions were ignored. That's it. The good.... Service is fantastic! My waiter Danny worked very hard to make my experience good. I had the Lomo Porthos. I've learned to ask for my steaks cooked 'tres cuartos" translated means three quarters, it's as close to a decent medium done as you're gonna get. When you ask for medium, it comes very rare. Well, this was ignored and my steak came out pretty much blue. It was raw and cold in the middle. I took a chance and asked Danny, please cook it more.. tres cuartos, not cold on the middle... And here is where this went super well, he saw I cut right down the middle of the steak and the thing was raw. Without any hesitation, he took the plate and when he came back the steak was perfect. The cook butterfled it to get the center cooked more quickly but I did not minfd at all. This was a great Steakhouse experience. Enjoyed my steak with steamed potatoes. Asked for pepper and got a pepper grinder. (Usually they come and add pepper until you say stop but here he left the pepper grinder on the table, at least it wasn't a dollar store peper shaker) All in all,, good food, good service and good ambience (they were playing all kinds of classic rock) I would...
Read morePorthos was a pretty good place, and overall, I enjoyed it. There was a line to get in, and the overall decor was really nice and impressive. After waiting about 30 minutes, we were seated at the bar but quickly moved to a table that was vacated for a better experience. Because I am a spoiled American, I thought I could have things removed from my entree. đ I don't care for onions, and they don't like me either. I wanted to get a burger without them but couldn't, so I got something else. It took a little while to get our food, and we were so hungry at that point that I forgot to take any pictures of it. (Rookie mistake đ¤Śđťââď¸) The food was slightly above average. The staff was terrific and worked hard, but they were also slightly overwhelmed by the number of people, so it was kind of hard for them to keep up at times. I think visiting during the day for lunch would probably provide a better and more relaxing experience. I would like to come back at some time and...
Read moreI went here cause TripAdvisor directed me to. It was an ad at the top of the recommendations... I was not disappointment. I starting to think, maybe TripAdvisor knows me well by now. It's odd, because this place is know for it's meat and burgers, and that's exactly what I was craving. At any rate... I inquired to the server what were the most popular dishes, he directed me to the colita (an Argentinian term for the cut, known more commonly in Colombia as 'punta gorda'). It was VERY delicious, a nice cut that went well 3/4 and accompanied by patacones and a glass (or 2) of red wine.
I didn't have any beer, but as a aside, they sell whole liters of beer for an extended happy hour period and have a quality selection.
The ambience is reminiscent of a Ruth's Chris, but not quite as upscale, a little more rustic. The wine selection left me wanting, but overall a minor detail.
Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a nice serving of beef, steak,...
