Mondo Cocktail Bar — Restaurant in Cartagena

Scam! Be alert! On September 17, 2022, my friend and I ordered draft beer here. The menu shows 18 mil peso about 4.4 dollars. But the guy wants to charge us 59 mil 14.4 US dollar. He said the price on menu is for smaller cup. We spent time arguing with him and owner. The owner said the guy is mistaken for special beer. This guy tried to scam us. Be alert!

Update: just saw owner’s explanation. I change it from one star for 2 star. Beer $7.2 for 20 oz is expensive. We ate in much higher end restaurant in Cartagena Olla Cartagenera, they charge 14 mil pesos 3.3 US dollar for the 20 oz draft beer. That is why we were surprised here. Because high price not show on menu and much more expensive than famous restaurants in Cartagena. I traveled 73 countries so far. $7.2 for 20 oz beer are expensive. Yes the girl manager made it right after we spent time arguing. She was good.Thanks for the owner’s explanation. First things first, the cocktails are pretty good. Not amazing, not worth the price, but sure, pretty good. The service is just OK. The atmosphere is nice. Now to the problem - the prices. Around 50mil for a cocktail (fine), and for HALF a shot? Also 50mil 😳😳😳😳 so we were 3, and left out after 1 cocktail each and HALF a shot each (recommended by the bartender which could easily advice to bring another cocktail instead, for the same price) - for around 320mil COP - around $80 USD, which was unacceptable. For the bartender - next time, please just say it, and let the clients know they could enjoy a tasty cocktail instead of a mediocre half a shot of a bourbon - which YOU offered to us and which was YOUR idea, as a 'trick' to earn double the money for 0 work.

Very disappointed, we basically felt like we fell into a trap which is the worst experience you could get in a bar - a place which one arrives to feel loose and sometimes connect with the bartender.

A must try for cocktail nerds if you’re in the old town. Stopped into mondo randomly on a Monday and was extremely impressed! The atmosphere was sheik and laid back tiki done just right with great music and suave service; the cocktails were fire. Our bartender, Joe was awesome, he recommended a few killer drinks from their house menu made with creative local Colombian ingredients and also whipped us up a perfect classic caipherna. Easily as good or better than the high end mixology going on in New York or San Francisco. Wish we had discovered Mondo at the start of our stay instead of our last night in town....
