The people working at the hotel were lovely, and the food was great (they had a few gluten free options too). The grounds were also lovely. The rooms were simple and clean, except for the amount of bugs coming in from 2-4 holes in the bottom of the shower where the tile grout was gone. ||We did ask management to put cocking or something around the bottom of the shower (where there were clearly coming from) but nothing was done. They said it was from the rainy season, but the problem was, the bugs were coming in as we were showering. And not one or two.... a swarm of them. So every time we 'd shower, it needed to be fast and with shoes on.||**Please note - this was our 4th time visiting Costa Rica, and we've experienced lots of hotels and understand that in CR there are bugs, especially in the rainy season. We don't leave food or sugary items around and always check our shoes for spiders and scorpions before we put them on. ||The restaurant was very delicious and breakfast was included. I was hoping for more gluten free options in the evening, but not to worry - most restaurants in the area offer gluten free options (including one just in front of the hotel).||Overall, the hotel itself was simple and decent. Would be a great place for someone to go if you are on a budget (which we were).||We'd probably not come here again, especially as a family, due to the amount of bugs that were in our room. For the price we paid ($70/night), I can't expect more than what we received. If they took care of the bugs, I probably would have...
Read moreWe stayed here just in beginning of tourist season, so it was quite slow and not too crowded. The manager on site, an American called Rick was very nice and helpful. Upon arrival we wanted to change rooms because of a whole in the wooden floor (on our earlier travels we had some problems with unexpected "guests" in our hotel room so we didnt want to take a chance) and that was no problem. ||||The surrondings are nice, a small garden, a clean indoor seating area (where breakfast is served) and a large kitchen where you can prepare your own meals. As we were backpacking and Costa Rica, or at least Monteverde, is a bit more expensive then our other destinations in terms of food/drinks in restaurants we enjoyed cooking our own food and spending our money on discovering the rainforest instead. The rooms are nothing fancy at all, but hey, you are just sleeping there, right? You are in the rainforest so you get what you expect. A fully wooden room with two beds, a chair and a bathroom. Not very hot water in the shower, but didn't bother us too much.||||We recommended the place to some friend of ours, and when they visited a month later they thought it was so so. Maybe because Rick was not there at the tie, he added much to our stay with his fun ways and helpful tips.||||And oh, if you are lucky, the monkeys will come to visit around breakfast so you can feed them right out of your hand...
Read moreHad an issue with one of the rooms where the glass panels separating the outside from the inside of the room were booked resulting in mosquitos and other bugs entering in. However, we were very quickly moved to a better room that didn't have this issue. The first room was also far too small resulting in two bunk beds being right beside each other and therefore no space for four people's luggage.
The hotel also did not manage noise very well and allowed people in the restaurant area and outside the reception to make far too much noise (blasting music and shouting and screaming); staff were around and encouraging it. Both these places are right beside rooms and they clearly ignored the 10pm quiet time rule. I wouldn't normally care, but I was backpacking and leaving at...
