Let's TACO 'bout Hvar — Restaurant in Grad Hvar

This restaurant is an absolute hidden gem, situated down the beautiful cobbled streets. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, we chose to sit outside as we love dining alfresco. The outdoor seating area is set in a small courtyard style area with around 5-6 tables, it's neatly tucked away from people walking by and there are pretty lights hanging above. There is a small but carefully selected range of the most popular cocktails with a good selection of beers and soft drinks. When it comes to the food, this was actually one of our favourites so we ended up visiting twice, once for dinner and in the last day for lunch. We can honestly say that these were the best tacos we have ever tasted!! I chose "keep it Shrimple" which was filled with grilled shrimps, avacado, sweet corn, pineapples, red onion and some type of spicy garlicky sauce. Wow, the flavours just literally burst in your mouth with the sweet and the savoury, the taco shells were light and tasty so you do not walk away feeling to overly stuffed. My husband had the "I'm too hot to handle" which had beef, jalapenos, cheese, corn, beans, crispy onion, sauces, he absolutely loved it. We also had a side of fries and sweet potato fries which were light and super tasty. There is no need to have to season them with salt and pepper as they are so flavoursome. The staff are super nice, nothing is a bother. Great music too. 10 out of 10. The prices were fantastic considering the high standard, we were surprised how cheap our bill came to as this was a more of a boutique street...

The humor of the menu and the name of the restaurant drew us in, and the awesome service and food made us want to return. Smokers at many restaurants in Hvar make the experience unpleasant. When we asked the hostess for seating away from the smoking area, she not only gave us a great table, but even turned on the fan to create a breeze for us. So thoughtful!

Our server, Danilo, was also superior. He knew everything about the menu and everything was perfectly timed. I had the five taco assortment, including the hilarious "not a big mac" taco. The shrimply the best taco was indeed the best. The only criticism was that the "too hot to handle" taco wasn't actually all that spicy. But I could have added more heat from the several bottles of hot sauce on every table.

The taco shells seemed to be made from flour tortillas rather than the traditional corn. That added to the unique local flavor. The spicy mango margarita was also on point.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Ja Taco! The tacos were simply delicious – full of flavor, made with care, and served with that extra little touch. Every bite was a delight, and it was clear they use fresh, high-quality ingredients.

What truly made the visit special was the warm and friendly service. Stefan, who was working when we were there, was incredibly welcoming and kind – and the rest of the team was just as lovely. From the moment you walk in, you feel right at home. They really know how to take care of their guests!

If you’re in Var, this is a place you have to try. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed dinner, a night out with friends, or a cozy meal with family – Ja Taco delivers. We’ll definitely be coming back, and we recommend it...
