Restaurant Palace Paladini — Restaurant in Grad Hvar

I loved this place. As a seafood lover this place took me to my happy place! The waitresses were friendly, helpful, not overbearing and obviously took pride in the establishment. My biggest problem was choosing what to order. I am only staying a few days and want to try other restaurants, but am torn. I really want to try more. I had a starter of clams (cold served as oysters are), they were amazing. The main of grilled squid was beautiful (not too sure about the chard side, which I would usually rate higher). My friend had ham starter that was very flavoursome yet cut slightly too thick, followed by a fish stew in tomatoes and paprika(?) It was gorgeous, hearty, meaty and very filling. I read some of the reviews afterwards and was shocked, all I can say is that they must have upped their game. While it’s a great location with a beautiful courtyard setting under an orange tree, the food was underwhelming and the service indifferent. I had the fish soup which was ok, followed by the charcoal grilled chicken, and a side of charcoal grilled vegetables. The chicken was a bit tough and nearly cold, mostly because the plate was, and the grilled veg consisted only of peppers and aubergines.

My partner started with a mixed salad which was just ok, and followed with the linguine with pesto, which was pretty good.

Our waiter asked if we wanted bread at the beginning but it never arrived.

Outstanding food and wonderful service in an idyllic secret garden! We were delighted we found this hidden gem for dinner on our first night in Hvar! The service was excellent (our waiter, George, was great and explained how the orange liqueur he offered us on the house was made from oranges from the garden). The scallops were very good, and I can honestly say that the risotto was the best I have had (I had the one with shrimp, sundried tomatoes, and rocket).
