In the cosy, wood-panelled hideaway of Ūvoz street, just a gentle stroll up from the majestic Prague Castle, you’ll find Ūvoz—a delightful little gem that proves you don’t need frills to achieve big flavour. Tucked away in the historic Hradčany district, this restaurant greets you with warmth the moment you cross the threshold.
From the outside it might appear modest—no flashing signs or theatrical fronts—but that’s part of the charm. Once inside, you’re enveloped in soft light, wood-panelled walls and a relaxed hum of conversation.
Tips:
Make a reservation if you can: the space is small and cosy, and you don’t want to end up peering over someone’s shoulder.
Go hungry: the portions may not be massive, but the quality means you’ll feel very satisfied.
Take the walk up: it adds to the experience (and gives you bragging rights).
Ask about specials: the menu changes frequently as they work with fresh ingredients.
Overall Verdict:
Ūvoz is the kind of restaurant that quietly delights. Unassuming exterior, warm interior, excellent Czech-inspired cuisine done with flair and heart. Whether you’re a tourist or a local seeking something off the usual beaten path, this spot deserves your attention. My only complaint? That I don't have more days in Prague to try every dish myself.
Would I go again? Absolutely. And I plan to on my next visit to Prague. Would I recommend it? Without hesitation—just bring your appetite and your sense...
Read moreWe visited twice on a visit to Prague. It’s new to the city but has a sister restaurant nearby. The team clean know what they are doing. You can stop by for a drink, or have a light starter, or stay for a full meal. The waiter (shamefully, I don’t have his name) is just lovely. Generous with his time, friendliness and helpfulness. The food is extremely tasty. It’s Czech food with enough refinement to feel special but still hearty and accessible. Modern traditional food, well served. If you’ve walked up the hill, reward yourself. If you want somewhere tasty away from the parties, jump in a taxi. The beer is well kept and well served by a waiter who worked in a brewery and keeps the glasses cold, wet and clean. He’s also very kind and thoughtful. I tried a Czech Pinot Noir and loved it, it was funky and round. I the two visits we tried veal tongue, beef tartare, terrine, eggs, guinea fowl, duck and ice cream. It was all extremely tasty. Go there and help make this a...
Read moreWe’ve been to this place a few times because the food truly is outstanding—easily some of the best we’ve had. Unfortunately, the consistently rude and dismissive attitude from the owner has finally turned us away for good.
On our last visit, we asked about a specific dish and were met with an unnecessarily curt response: “First of all, we haven’t had that for about a week, and I’ll see if we can cook something for you—we’re preparing for dinners.” The restaurant was completely empty at the time. We were then told they could only serve starters.
We’ve tried to look past the attitude in the past because the kitchen delivers every time. But hospitality matters, and no matter how good the food is, being made to feel like an inconvenience just isn’t worth it. Sad to say this was our...
