On a grey cold day in Prague, my girlfriend and I decided to take a leap of faith and to visit the alchemist museum. It sounded cool, so why not delve into the magic and mystery of Edward Kelly, renown alchemist of Prague. Upon arrival, the setting was eery and ominous, totally in line with the expected mysticism. We thought it was a great idea to pay the 7 euro that was asked of us. However upon entering part 1 of the exposition, we noticed that part 1 was quite literally one small room with some weird writing on the wall and some dodgy drawings on the floor. This was quite shockingly the entirety of the first part. However, we did not yet despair and expected Edward Kelly to be interesting after all. The second part of the museum was up a little tower - which was actually quite nice - and led our curious souls into the dark oblivion of medieval alchemy. An engaged museum guide told us to ask any questions we felt necessary and we were allowed to take pictures freely (believe me, we did). The second part of the exposition was again very small but the decor was quite beautiful. Not considering my collapsed sinuses because of the extreme amounts of dust, for which I am highly allergic. So in between a waterfall of snot and crunchy eyes, it was possible to look at medieval books and stuffed monkeys, cats AND EVEN A CORPSE!! This was of course captivating. I must say the texts were a tad hard to read, but who cares when the scenery is this inviting... We had a great moment with what I believe was a statue of the mysterious man Edward Kelly (see picture attached) and with the lever-operated arm of the skeletal figure which made a weird but exciting noise. Maybe I should cut to the chase and conclude, this museum is extraordinarily small but when you are in the right mindset it might blow your mind. Mysticism and freaky stuff assured, would not recommend if looking for a serious museum! TL;DR maybe not the best museum out there (at all), but we had a great time!

I bought a combi-ticket for this and the ghost museum and...I don't know... it's largely skippable. It's nicely decorated but kinda cheap looking at times. The guided part of the tour were kinda hard to understand and for the most part it's just a reading experience. Texts upon texts of information about stuff I barely remember now. What I do remember is thinking that I could read that up on Wikipedia though. Mainly I am confused about who this is for? Because I could see it being a nice 'chamber of horrors' type of attraction for kids but then again there's all this reading that you can't really expect children to do. If you didn't stop to read every piece of information the experience lasts about 15 Minutes. Considering what you get from it the tickets are far too expensive. I don't know. I'm kinda disappointed. If you're looking for an actual inside into alchemy in Prague go to the 'Speculum Alchemiae' The connecting bar is cool though. It's themed after an alchemical laboratory and they take the theme very seriously. The drinks are sort of expensive but it's worth to stop by.

The museum has two parts: one on the ground floor with background of alchemy and the other part up in the attic (please note that you get there by taking some steep stairs, 3 floors up. Not sure if there's an elevator, but I don't think so). The vibe on the first floor was great and really got you into the right mood. For the second part, you'll have a tour guide that will have a small tour around the attic. It was cool, but occasionally a bit hard to fully grasp what the guide wanted to communicate. I'd like to point out, like many others, that the museum was very small. A lot smaller than what I expected, despite reading some reviews beforehand. Additionally, the museum it's quite text heavy, hence, be expected to read quite a lot during your visit (the info was available in both Czech and English).

I have this new habit of writing reviews about the places I’ve seen in Europe and I have to say that I never knew Prague was this rich in historical, biblical, scientific and literary manners. When I went to the museum I was quite amazed. I am an English literature major therefore learning more about even Shakespeare himself that I know from head to toe was actually a good experience. I will visit this place again if I ever get lucky enough to visit Prague again - which I hope I do. I even wanted to work there even through the fact that it might be somehow haunted. I am not a brave girl but climbing up stairs in fact had a good influence on my courage. I went there by the time it was around 2-3 pm and therefore there was a shift within workers ( I assume ) which lead the tour to be a bit rushed. I am working on a book currently therefore I was trying to hear everything clearly to get ✨inspired ✨ I did that. It was fine. However my friends that have a bit of trouble with English had a hard time understanding the words spoken fastly. I also wanted to have a lot of reading there as there were all these informations - well thoughtly - that took place in somewhat of fake codexes. I just couldn’t read them and I read fast, I swear. I took a picture though so It was alright. I think people should visit here but I do not know - I wanted a bit more from it because I was so excited. Might be my fault at last. MOST IMPORTANTLY, when you talk about Shakespeare you can also mention the Fair Youth because Shakespeare was indeed trying to immortalize him. That whole thing fits the concept you were talking about - I can explain more through mail. I can’t share it...

1.They told us to wait to be called for the tower tour. Then we saw the guide only calling 2 girls to the tower and forgot about us, but we were only 4 guests there. After we ran to get to the tower (to not loose the tour) she just acted like nothing happened. No sorry, no nothing. At the end she started speaking in russian with the other girls. Of course, we did not understant anything. The tour was held in a hurry, the guide did not even wait for us to see what she was talking about. 2.They told us to pay more money in order to visit another museum they have, near the bridge. Since at this museum you already have to read a lot, we asked it this will also be the case at the second museum. Both girls (the new employee and the “in a hurry one”) told us that we will have audio guides using an app that we can download there. When we arrived at the second museum, the guide app did not work and the boy at the reception told us that it hasn’t work in a while now. They are not professional and this is a tourist trap. I do not recommend.

This is not for children because it has a lot of text on the wall, I mean a lot and a child could not have the patience to stay to read that long…nor the height, cause they are positioned pretty up on the walls, most of them. This is not a museum, it is more likely a powerpoint presentation. Some decorations are interesting but not worth 300 czk/person for...
