Every once in a while, you just get lucky.
I took a chance and stopped in to Tast at opening to see if they could provide a table for one. Some poor fool had cancelled, so I got in and had the best food of the four weeks I've spent in Europe.
First on the table was house made bread (still warm) with a butter that some wizard combined with beer cheese and topped with paprika.
Then, a delicious steak tartar with another (different and toasted) house made bread. The presentation was ALMOST as good as the taste.
Next a deer loin that replaced wild boar I had in Austria several years ago as the single best game meat I've ever had. Every bite was moist, full of flavor and a perfect medium rare. The side of potato puree would have been the best thing on many restaurant tables.
Did I need dessert? No. Did I want something else to come to my table out of that kitchen? Yes, absolutely. Semolina pudding with baked apricots and some kind of crumbled goodness.
Service was friendly and attentive. They have a very nice wine list with by the glass options on request.
Don't take a chance. Book a table. If you can't book a table, take a chance and see if you too can win the food lottery and get...
Read moreI had been wanting to try this restaurant since it opened, but I kept waiting for a nice occasion to treat myself. My aunt is currently visiting and I wanted to show her a modern and cosy czech restaurant, so the perfect time came. WELL. That was probably one of the best dinners I’ve had in Prague in 2 years.
To start, we got some fresh sourdough with caramelised butter which was already a great way to begin. Then, we ordered tartar to share and it came with a delicious toasted and soft brioche. As a main, I got the sea bass with carrots, fennel and beans, and my aunt had the duck breast. Both were delicious, and perfectly cooked and seasoned. For dessert, we shared a carrot cake with ice cream and it was also incredible.
Honestly, everything was cooked to perfection, the flavours and textures were amazing… I don’t know what else to say!! It was just delicious and I’m sad I took so many months to go. The service was also amazing, the atmosphere very cosy and the pricing is more than fair considering the quality. Definitely recommend (you have to reserve, though! It’s quite small so space isn’t guaranteed) if you’re in Prague and like high quality but non-pretentious...
Read moreTāst is an absolutely phenomenal experience. We were a large party of six with some dietary restrictions (pescatarian and chicken only members in the group) and the host truly went above and beyond to make sure everyone could have a fantastic meal.
And the meal was spectacular. Between the six of us we ordered nearly all the appetizers and main dishes and we were all amazed that we were all amazed by every single one! The tuna and tartare appetizers were hits at our table, as well as that day’s special — scallops (or mussels I guess they are called there) in a really delicious broth. Some of the mains were accompanied by gnocchi, which was very delicious (we all tried a piece!). The host was extremely attentive and we could just tell he loved and was so excited about the food he was presenting.
Sadly, we had a walking tour scheduled that we had to run out for and missed having dessert there — something we are still regretting. If I make it back to Prague, Tāst will be one of my first stops! Thank you for an incredible meal...
