If you’re looking for an authentic Czech dining experience in Prague, Lokál is a must-visit. With its no-frills, beer hall-style atmosphere and focus on traditional Czech fare done right, Lokál offers both locals and tourists a taste of the real thing — hearty food, cold beer, and a lively yet relaxed vibe.
I ordered the beef goulash, and it was exactly what I hoped for: rich, comforting, and deeply flavorful. The goulash came in a generous portion, with melt-in-your-mouth chunks of beef swimming in a thick, paprika-forward sauce that had just the right balance of spice and depth. The dish was served with soft bread dumplings — perfect for soaking up every bit of that delicious sauce. It’s the kind of comfort food that sticks with you in the best way.
To go with it, I had a Pilsner Urquell, drawn fresh from the tank. Lokál is known for serving some of the freshest Pilsner in Prague, and it shows — the beer was crisp, smooth, and perfectly chilled, with a creamy head and that signature balance of bitterness and malt. Whether you’re a beer lover or just curious, this is the place to enjoy it at its best.
The atmosphere at Lokál is lively and casual, with long wooden tables, buzzing conversation, and a steady flow of locals stopping by for a quick pint or a full meal. Despite the popularity, service was efficient and friendly — the staff knew the menu well and made sure everything came out promptly.
What I appreciated most about Lokál was the honesty of the place. No over-the-top presentation, no gimmicks — just great Czech food and beer served in a space that feels both welcoming and genuinely local.
In short, Lokál is a gem for anyone wanting to dive into Czech culinary culture. The beef goulash paired with a fresh Pilsner Urquell made for a perfect meal, and I’d happily return for more. It’s simple, it’s satisfying, and it’s Prague...
Read moreI was really wanting to like this place, but it wasn't to be. It was recommended by 2 sources, the 100 Towers tour group & a lovely fellow Australian who runs a booming successful business with her Czech hubby. The food we tried was a very limited sample because alot of dishes were sold out. I understand that the food is cooked in the morning for the day. However, this was an early dinner 6pm. If that is the case then why did we wait 50 min for 3 of the 5 dishes to come out? The soup was quick to be served understandably, very tasty but very small serves. A beetroot salad implies that a few ingredients would make up the salad, but a serve of canned chopped beetroot was what was served, a little under-whelming. The grilled sausage was nice enough but why it took 50 min, who knows, it wasn't busy only quarter of the tables were filled. The baked/grilled cheese & boiled potatoes were fine. I think this is more of a drinking establishment (however I thought the drinks menu was limited as well) than a restaurant. One thing I would like to remind the Czech business owners is, where would they be without tourism? How long would their business last? I get that they may get a bit over all the tourists, but at the end of the day, they are the ones paying your wages & supplying jobs. Also, considering we are only 18-24 months out of covid they would be thrilled to have tourists & their money return. I say this in reference to most (unfortunately) businesses we attended during our stay. The best service I received funnily enough was in a local supermarket, go...
Read moreBest meal we had during our 3-day Prague visit! Do not miss! You will be depriving yourself!
The amazing smells coming from the pub literally stopped us in our tracks as we walked past. We stopped to look at the menu, which had a good (but not overwhelming) choice of hearty Czech food (which rotates on a daily basis), was available in both Czech and English, and was reasonably priced.
The interior looks austere which can be a bit daunting for tourists, but the pub seemed to be frequented by more locals than tourists, which was a good sign.
Ordering was straight forward. Drinks came quickly (black beer and black tea) and food followed shortly after. There was a minor mishap with one of our dishes, but it was replaced within 5 minutes by a lovely, efficient server who apologised, so no issues at all.
We had the assorted frankfurters with bread and the minced meat and cheese schnitzel with mashed potato. The food looks deceptively plain but was SO DELICIOUS. Schnitzel was crispy on the outside but meaty and juicy in the middle. Mashed potato was so smooth, tasty and light (not the stodgy heavy potato often served). The food was also seasoned and flavoured perfectly.
The pub is tucked away on a small corner just by the Mala Strana end of the Charles Bridge, so in a brilliant location just off the tourist path.
We found this pub on our last morning in Prague, and we're so glad we did as it was our best meal whilst visiting. If we'd had more time, we'd have come back again.
Cost was around £18 for 2 dishes, 1...
