WAID Bar & Coffee — Restaurant in Prague

I used to love WAID for its atmosphere and vibes, but today something unacceptable happened. My friend accidentally broke a glass while getting up (we were not drunk). Instead of handling it professionally, the staff member on duty (around 9–10 PM) spoke to her in a threatening, aggressive tone, insisting she clean it herself before leaving. My friend politely offered to pay, but the staff continued arguing. What made it worse is that many people break glasses at bars, and they are never treated like this. A local friend confirmed that this was clearly an act of racism—because we had brown skin, we were singled out and humiliated. This was an incredibly upsetting experience. Not a welcoming experience for foreigners. During my visit, I accidentally broke a beer glass while getting up from the table. I immediately offered to pay for the damage, but the staff insisted that I clean up the broken glass myself — which is not only unprofessional but also a safety hazard.

When I expressed my concern about handling broken shards and reiterated my willingness to pay, the situation escalated into a heated argument. I ultimately paid for the glass as I had offered from the beginning, but the entire incident left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable.

It’s noisy inside. You cannot order by the table, you should go to the bar. I and my friend took lemonades and we both were upset, they tasted like water. Also, you have to pay right away. Bartenders aren’t super friendly. Straws are made of plastic. When you get a drink, they never decorate it, don’t even serve it with a spoon. The drinks are just extremely simple.
