Oh three little piggies, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
I'm not sure your location could be ANY better. Hands up for a quick vote of the best street in Copenhagen? What's that? You agree that it's Værnedamsvej, too? Well, fantastic, because it's true.
Sometimes a girl likes to walk through a set of doors and feel transformed. This particular girl has some roots in her beloved France and occasionally likes to be transported there, from chilly little Denmark. That happens at Les Trois Cochons. But in fairness, it happens actually before you turn onto Værnedamsvej, because basically that whole street looks like Paris. And THEN you walk through the front door and you're on the Left Bank...if we're being specific.
Two magical words: Foie Gras. I can honestly say - and I've eaten a lot of foie gras in my days - that this was, hands down, the best foie gras of my life. No, I'm not exaggerating.
One more word: Rillettes. Listen you guys. I lived in the Loire Valley back in the early 2000s. That's where Rillettes COMES from. It is so perfect there, that you might occasionally think, while eating it, "I could die a happy lady, right here, right now." Never in my life - not in other areas of France, not in New York - have I found better Rillettes. Les Trois Cochons, however, made it JUST as good.
I had to unbutton my pants when I left. And rest assured, it's not because I drank too much wine and had the desire to (cough), nor is it because the food was of that terrible quality that you bloat immediately upon consumption. It's because I wanted to eat everything. And I did. I often gauge a good French meal by whether or not I need to take my pants off afterward. We ate like kings (and queens).
Other amazing things were our lovely waiter who knew everything there was to know about the menu, the guys at the bar who suggested some excellent wines while we waited for our reservation, the entrecôte (I still have warm and fuzzy dreams about that one), the desserts, and the basement (it looks like a legit wine cellar, and I believe can be rented out for larger parties).
To be revisited, as often as my...
Read moreWe had our wedding meal here last night. First of all I can say that the food was amazing and the communication leading up to the event was great but the experience put a bit of a dampener on a wonderful day. The difficulty is that we were kicked out mid- wedding speeches as we ran out of time, so we literally ended up giving our wedding speeches on the street outside, which isn't quite how you plan on spending your wedding. The experience and sensitivity shown in the situation were lacking. The argument is of course that we had the table for a limited time and we did go over. I'm aware that's our fault. The difficulty for me is that we were always very clear that we were having a wedding meal and also that we wanted a break for speeches, I wasn't aware that this was going to be a rushed wedding meal and if I had known I would have thought about looking for a place where we could have taken our time for our special day and not been so rushed. My father was mid-way through a very emotional speech to the group only to be told "you have to leave now. Please leave. You have to leave now". I have never eaten a dessert so fast in my life and rushed as much as we could once we could and tried to be respectful that we had run over but kept getting rushed. The speeches for us were a really important part of the wedding. I understand there was another group waiting for our table, maybe they wouldn't have minded waiting if they knee there was a wedding that needed a little more time to finish? We would have been happy to pay for a round of drinks for them as an apology. A wedding is such a special moment that happens once in your life and I'm sure we'll eventually look back and find it funny that we were kicked out of our own wedding dinner, but in the moment it really impacted how we felt and put a bit of a dampener on our special day. I would highly recommend the food, but I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for a group event...

We came for dinner on Friday night, did a starter + main dish + dessert.
The overall ambiance of the restaurant is on a louder and definitely crowded side - you sit right next to a next table (and if unlucky, right under an arch on the wall so you keep hitting your head when moving). The smoke from the outdoor seating kept coming inside throughout the whole evening. Not enjoyable at all.
The food itself was nice - we had tomato salad, tuna tartar, beef tenderloin steaks and Eton Mess for dessert. None of these dishes differed from what you would prepare at home - which is both good and bad. Basic and honest food, at the same time nothing special or standing out to make you come for more. The steaks were unfortunately overdone (medium instead of medium rare), but still on a juicier side.
Waiting for food was more than I would prefer, the longest was waiting for a dessert - almost painfully long.
The worst was the staff and service. This experience was all with only one member of the staff.
Our waiter seemed disconnected from the fact that his job is to make our stay enjoyable. We were rudely told (not even informed, this was really one-directional direct order almost) that we should leave in 10 minutes. Instead of politely and kindly saying "We are very happy you are enjoying your evening and would love you to come back. Is there anything I can do for you before I bring the bill, since we have other guests waiting for this table?"... I was aware of the time window when making reservation, but this does not mean you should be treated this way.
Another experience was with the actual bill, which was just tossed on the table together with a terminal - the waiter then just left. Self-service, I guess, why bother spending some time with people who are there to maybe to - IDK - maybe give a tip? Very...
