Our 11:00 AM reservation at Granola on a Sunday promised a relaxing and enjoyable brunch. The cafe's charming ambiance was immediately evident, but our initial request for the vacant window table was met with a firm refusal, despite it remaining unoccupied for at least the next 30 minutes. This rigid adherence to table assignments, coupled with the cramped seating arrangement that placed us uncomfortably close to neighboring diners, created an atmosphere that was anything but intimate, turning our meal into an unintended eavesdropping session.
The avocado on sourdough, a dish we were eager to savor based on the cafe's online presence, proved to be a significant letdown. The portion size was surprisingly small, a stark contrast to the generous servings depicted in online photos. Furthermore, the avocado itself was bland and uninspired, lacking any discernible flavor. We later observed other patrons receiving considerably larger portions, leading us to suspect we were served the less desirable end slices.
Service throughout our brunch was inconsistent and at times, bordered on dismissive. After finishing our meal, we were left unattended until we actively sought out a waitress to inquire about coffee. The response was lukewarm at best, and the subsequent attempt to order dessert was a frustrating experience. The initial claim that the banana bread was "sold out" was followed by a limited offering of "only croissants," only to be corrected after further inquiry to include pan au chocolat. While the pan au chocolat and coffee were ultimately enjoyable, they did little to redeem the preceding series of missteps.
Granola possesses the potential for a delightful Sunday brunch destination, but our experience highlighted significant shortcomings in service consistency and portion control. The inflexible table assignments and seemingly arbitrary portion sizes left us feeling underwhelmed and undervalued. While the final coffee and pastry were a pleasant conclusion, they were overshadowed by the earlier disappointments. A more attentive and flexible approach is crucial to ensure a truly satisfying brunch experience for all...
Read moreGranola has a classic French flair and is a bit of a posh place that doesn't quite live up to the expectations set by its pricing and appearance. We were there for breakfast/brunch and had the breakfast place with "2 servings". The first serving is a plate of scrambled egg, 2 cheeses, sausage, ham, a bit of avocado, and a small yogurt with a bit of granola topping. The second serving is a French Toast -- or maybe rather a mix between a French Toast and an American Pancake (very rich topping with berries, whipped cream, and syrup -- very sweet). We had to ask for the bread and then again for more than 4 slices of bread for two people... The service is very friendly and comes quickly when called, but again - the fancy clothing would promise more professionalism. While everything was good and fine, for a price of 550 DKK for two breakfasts and two coffees, one would just expect more. And then it's also a bit "classic" and lacking a more modern or...
Read moreOne of the best meals I've ever had.
Had a two course meal, of pork ragout with crushed potatoes, followed by a chocolate, run and coffee mousse, and a lemon cake with a rosemary syrup.
My pork was the most delicious combination of flavours and succulent meat I've had since the moonfish in Aberdeen, and the crushed potatoes were perfectly done. Everything was a fantastic balance of flavours, fresh herbs and spices combining together to create a fantastic pallet.
We previously went there for lunch, which was good, although dwarfed by the dinner experience. Open topped sandwiches are available with a variety of toppings and beautifully arranged.
Service was good, although better on the night too. Good facilities and atmosphere at night.
Coffee was mediocre however. I would definitely completely recommend this place, but if you are to go, try and fork out and go for dinner. You...
