KÖD Vesterbrogade – Honest Review from a Meat Lover During my vacation in Copenhagen, I had dinner at KÖD Vesterbrogade. The restaurant had a warm, stylish vibe with dim lighting, dark tones, table lamps, plants, and even a Greek-style pillar near the entrance. We were seated near a staircase, which was perfectly fine — though my steak knife was dirty upon arrival. It was removed but never replaced. We ordered a bottle of Primitivo di Manduria, which paired well with our meat dishes. Bread with spicy herb butter was served, and a staff member theatrically scooped salt into a small bowl at our table — a fun little detail. Starters were tuna with avocado and steak tartare. Only the tuna came out initially, and the tartare followed 15 minutes later after we mentioned it. Both were delicious: the tuna was fresh, the tartare had a firm texture with a sharp edge. For the main course, we shared the KÖD Experience (rare): • Wagyu A4 (150g, Japan) • Tenderloin (200g, Uruguay) • Ribeye (250g, Uruguay) We skipped sauces to taste the meat in its purest form. The Wagyu and tenderloin were fantastic. The chili fries we ordered on the side were way too spicy — even for someone who enjoys heat. It became overwhelming and slightly uncomfortable. The service was friendly and timely overall. After the main course, we were offered a break before dessert, which we appreciated. For dessert, we had the classic crème brûlée (served with raspberry ice cream and cookie crumbs) and the Everyday Sundae (strawberry ice cream with whipped cream). Both were decent and nicely presented. Some small improvements — cleaner tableware, better timing, and more balance in seasoning — could easily lift this to a 4/5 overall. The quality of the meat is definitely a highlight. If you’re in Copenhagen and looking for a good steakhouse, KÖD is worth a visit.

I ordered the striploin steak with fries, Caesar salad, bearnaise sauce, and bread — everything was spot on. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor, while the fries were crisp and golden. The Caesar salad added a fresh balance, and the bearnaise was smooth, rich, and perfectly seasoned. Service was friendly and professional without being intrusive, and the pacing of the meal felt just right. It’s the kind of place where you can truly unwind and enjoy quality food in a beautiful setting. We’ll definitely be back — highly recommended for anyone who loves a proper steakhouse experience in Copenhagen.

(Being a Dutch person, i wrote this review as so, but also as a bit advise for the Dutch tourists in Copenhagen).

I entered the restaurant as the stereotype tourist: backpack, hiking trousers and thick jacket.

When i asked the host of there was a table available for one person, he replied that the only free table was set for four persons. So, if i didn't mind eating at a large table, he could install me at that spot.

I didn't mind, so i followed the host to my table, next to the kitchen.

The bread they serve, is absolutely fenomenale. It is a house-baked salty bread, served with a special sauce. After asking if it was a house recipe, i've been told that it is very popular. And i know why.

For a starter, i ordered the steak tartare, which was delicious. No complaints here.

For my main course, i ordered the 250 gram rib-eye. The meat was really tender, and cooked to the spot. However, it doesn't come with fries, so you have to order them separately. I ordered the fries made from sweet potatoes, and those pair with the steak in a perfect way!

For desert, i had the crème Brulee. This was served together with a scoop of raspberry ice cream, on a layer of crushed cookie crumbs.

On a more general note: i noticed how quiet the kitchen was. The staff was communicating and working off course, but there was no shouting or loud noise coming from there.

Every time the kitchen staff rang a bell, a waitress walked up, and served the food to the designated table, with minimal waiting time.

After all, i enjoyed my meal from start to finish. The employees are young, yet ambitious. Everything about this restaurant is handled in a professional manner. (A special shout-out to Sofie, the youngest member of the team).

In my opinion, the price/quality equation is about right. It isn't cheap, but it is worth every penny!

Edit; efter svar fra resturanten: Vi fik ikke kompensation for dessert og drikkevare i det at vi aldrig modtog dessert og vinen som tilhørte desserten, da vi gik tidligt pga. den dårlige oplevelse. Altså er det ikke kompensation, men at vi kun betalte for hvad vi havde spist/drukket, intet mindre... Vi blev kun tilbudt et sted at blive rykket hen, men som jeg skriver nedenfor, så var andre gæster som sad dette sted også generet, så hvad er pointen med at flytte derhen? Det er også falsk at de dæmpede sig efter det blev påtalt, det skete ikke og derfor gik vi.

Ødelagde min aften ved at tage på köd…

TLDR; middelmådig og langsomt serveret mad + råbende blufærdighedkrænkende gæster som ikke bliver smidt ud selvom der blev gjort opmærksom på problemet fra flere. Dette gjorde at min aften blev ødelagt uden nogen former for kompensation eller mulighed for at snakke med ledelsen.

Jeg har desværre haft den dårligeste restaurant oplevelse i mit liv her på köd. Vi havde bestilt bord og får plads. Vi bestiller alle 3 retters menu og efter lidt tid kommer et andet selvskab på 5-6 stykker der sidder ved siden af os. De begynder hurtigt at fylde hele rummet med larm. Så meget larm at vi ikke kan holde en samtale omkring vores bord. De råber og klirer med glas som om at de skal holde taler og er så højlydte at man kan se at alle i rummet bliver generet af dem. Jeg henvender mig til en af jeres tjenere og spørger om vi ikke kan få et andet bord, da vi ikke kan holde en samtale pga. larmen. Der er desværre booket, men tjeneren henvender sig til dem 2 gange og beder dem dæmpe sig. De begynder så at snakke til og om hende på en niveau, så det efter min optik er blufærdighedskrænkelse. De ændrer ikke adfærd og der kommer en gæst fra et andet bord inde fra den anden afdeling af kælderen og beder dem dæmpe sig. Altså har er de så højlydte at folk i den anden afdeling af kælderen er generet. Efter 30 minutter spørger jeg tjeneren igen om de kan finde et andet bord til os, eller om vi kan gå uden vores dessert fordi det er direkte ubehageligt at sidde i restauranten. Tjeneren siger at der er et bord inde i den afdeling hvoraf den anden gæst lige er kommet fra og beklager sig over larmen. Det går jeg selvfølgelig ikke med til, da det er tydeligt at de er ligeså generende der. Efter et godt stykke tid får vi af vide at vi kan gå uden at betale for desserten. Dertil forhører vi os til tjeneren og spørger om det kan være rigtigt at der ikke er en kompensation for den ubehagelige oplevelse. Tjeneren snakker med lederen og kommer tilbage for at sige at det vil de ikke gøre noget ved fordi vi skulle have taget imod det andet bord. Jeg spørger om jeg må snakke med lederen fordi det er for dårligt i mine øjne. Jeg får at vide at det må jeg ikke, så det ender med at vi betaler for det vi har spist og går derfra med en dårlig oplevelse og ondt i hovedet.

Mad oplevelsen var ikke noget særligt og der gik 30+ min mellem vi bestilte og til at maden var klar, selvom det bestod af tartar. Derudover så gik der også 45+ min mellem forret og hovedret hvoraf vi får at vide at der er ad libitum tilbehør. Vi beder efter kort tid om lidt mere tilbehør, men det dukker først frem efter 20 minuter, hvor man selvfølgelig har spist op af hovedretten. Udover var maden ok. Ikke god, men fint nok når man giver 500kr pr næse.

Alt i alt virker det ikke til at være et personligt præg på restauranten og ledelsen er fraværende. Det er måske til at forvente af en kæde, men det er utroligt at man tillader at lade 6 gæster ødelægge aftenen for alle andre og så oven i dette ikke give nogen form for kompensation. Restaurantoplevelsen er trods alt en del af det man betaler for når man går på restaurant. I dette tilfældet var det desværre kun med middelmådige mad og en ødelagt aften.

Det skal også understreges at det var tydeligt at tjenerne prøvede at gøre deres bedste, men at ledelsen ikke tog hånd om situationen også selvom personalet bliver krænket. Hverken med de ubehøvlede gæster eller omkring kompensation. Jeg fortryder at jeg brugte min tid og penge på...
