I've been a student assistant at Fotografisk Center during my master's education. The team behind Fotografisk Center is a small group of talented and hardworking professionals. Located in the meatpacking district on Staldgade 16, the art hall's fee costs only 40 DKK for adults, 20 DKK for pensioners and students. Fotografisk Center exhibits visual art and camera-based art including; analogue photography, digital photography and new media such as interactive visual art and hybrids between video and sculpture. My favourite show has always been Young Danish Photography, an annual exhibition in which young photographers have the opportunity to show their work to a broader audience. Through this show I discovered the work of Nanna Navntoft and Sarah Michelle Riisager. Fotografisk Center has a wide collection of photography-related books in its library and book shop. However, there was an audio recording playing at full volume that could be heard throughout the entire space which made it difficult to focus on the other exhibits; but, most importantly, it was a recount of re and m**r. And while I think it’s absolutely essential to document such recounts, they should come with a trigger warning, especially for people with traumatic experiences or families...
