Mexican food that rivals the best in Mexico City, at times (including the best tamale I’ve ever had).
You can tell a lot of care and thought goes into the food, without making it fussy. My favorite type of food: classic flavours that are elevated through new technique and understanding the foods you’re cooking with and the dishes you’re cooking. You’re left wanting more after several of the dishes. With some kinks worked out it will be really world class, and it is still probably one of my favorite meals based on the food alone.
Standouts on our menu included ... pretty much everything we ate. Most dishes could use a bit of tweaking, but overall it was phenomenal.
Guajillo soup that was incredibly flavourful (though the rice it came with could have been cooked better).
An empanada with a perfect pastry, though the cheese inside could have been a bit more gooey.
Definitely the most delicious tamale I’ve ever had, substituting mushroom oil for the lard typically used. Definitely something I will dream about.
Celeriac tacos that were well spiced and well cooked; though the corn tortillas were not great for me - a little dry and didn’t have the strong corn flavour.
The mole dish could use some work; though I’m comparing it to two of the best I had in Mexico City (at Pujol and Pasillo de Humo (the better of the two for me)) — it was still really nice, but could use a bit more depth and cohesion. Serving it with a grilled pear and green banana was a nice combination, and maybe it was just an off day. Still delicious, but not up to the level of the other dishes we had.
I can understand the reviews saying portion sizes are quite small, but adding a couple of desserts to the 5 course menu was a good amount of food for me and my wife.
Desserts were good, but not to the level of the food. Corn tart was our favourite ahead of the churro with ice cream (still a delicious dessert).
Drink pairing was just ok for me; 250kr, so not expensive (in CPH terms) but the only standout for me was the mixed drink — also included a Mexican Nebbiolo (interesting to try, not a huge fan), a beer (okay, not exciting), and an orange wine from Georgia (I typically like orange wines but this was not a great example imo).
Would definitely return next time I’m...
Read moreIncredibly overpriced and barely ok food. I know a lot of people are rating this as a 5, but let me tell you, they gave a 5 in their minds BEFORE entering the restaurant. We ordered the tasting menu, the way is worded you might think you are getting 8 things or 4+1thing at the choice of the kitchen BUT NO: 0)mexican chips and salsa. Guacamole was bland, the other was just pure vinegar. 65dkk extra. 1)tostada with beetroot. Tasted of nothing, i kept waiting and moving the food around my mouth to feel something. I just felt sadness. 2)ceviche. Everyone makes ceviche these days and this one was like turning acid TO THE MAX. The liquid was close to making me reach, so strong it was. It reminded me in potency (but not in price) of the acetic acid i use to clean my kitchen drain. 3)mole with a root and a green salad. Let's say you order a steak at a restaurant with cheese sauce and the waiter comes and says:"Here is your cheese sauce, with a side of turnip". This is exactly how this dish is presented:this is the sauce (mole) with some stuff that does not really belong. Tasted alright. Again I searched deep within my mouth for that hidden taste. It is to this moment still hidden. 4)fish with a leaf and a hard base. This was the main course. I thought this was not last but alas. The leaf was the best of the dish but there are no points for frying white fish and putting a bland sauce on it. The canteen of my company makes that every wednesday. There were aromas of sparagus and jalapeños were mentioned, but nowhere in my palate did those flavours find their home and before I knew it this was it.
To remark, it took almost 2h to have the 4 dishes served and the servers were correct but that was it.
I saw tacos being served at other tables so when the waitress took my knive I was half sure she would say "you will the tacos with your hands" instead she said I could have something else to drink. At that point she was right, I needed it.
100dkk/dish is not a rate that you can charge in Copenhagen at this level of quality. I cannot believe the owner or cook or the waiter of this place goes to another (cheaper) restaurant and does not feel that they are scamming their well intended guests.
2 stars for the music.

Read moreSurprised by the great reviews. We did the three course tasting menu and I was so excited for this meal as I love Mexican food and was curious about this place given the accolades. I ordered the regular menu, but the other two in my party are pescatarian and staff were very confident in assuring us they could accommodate. The appetizer was very good. The dessert was excellent in every way - the chocolate mousse and salsa macha pairing was super interesting and yummy. The main course was a let down all around. The pork belly carnitas tacos were very mid. While I’m not Mexican, I’ve been to Mexico many times and I do live in a part of California where there’s a taqueria at every corner, so I’ve eaten a lot of tacos, and these were surprisingly bland and lackluster. I would have been fine with that, except the pescatarians in my party were served a cauliflower taco - meaning a large piece of cauliflower steak was grilled with oil and salt and presented with some leafy greens for them to make tacos out of. Bland, flavorless and very uninspired. Something I could make (but wouldn’t) at home. We felt very let down by this experience - it felt like they were lazy and didn’t even want to try for 2/3 of our party, and we felt a bit cheated. There was a fish taco on the extended menu and they could’ve gone with that in lieu of cauliflower, or at least made a bit more effort with the cauliflower. Alternatively, say you can’t accommodate so we can go elsewhere. The app and dessert while good, were small, and the main meal being what it was, it felt as if we paid $200 for some grilled cauliflower. Not great. I would’ve gone with one star, but added an additional star for the exceptional dessert and a decently pleasant staff. I would 100% give this place a miss if you’ve had a lot of Mexican food before. Maybe go for the dessert only if...
