This was a gem of a find. A very modernist decor with small wooden tables and on the night we went just one server. The food was delicious and the cocktails equally so.
We were in Copenhagen for a long weekend with friends who’d managed to score a reservation at Noma so we headed out looking for our own place to eat on a Thursday night. We managed to get a reservation quite easily for 20:15; a table for two. When we arrived at this basement restaurant we were pleasantly surprised at how small and intimate it felt and were guided to our table by our server. She gave us some menus and left us to make our selections. It became quickly apparent that one of the draw backs of the intimacy of the space was that we felt like we were sat at the same table as the date that was going next to us. This may have been in part because the American gentleman was rather vocal, there were a few con-spiritual eye rolls exchanged between a us and some of the other tables making it apparent that we weren’t alone in this feeling. Fortunately they skipped desert and we’re leaving as we were just receiving our cocktails.
My fiancée ordered the Rhubarb & Moscato while had the Chestnut Old Fashioned, both were perfectly balanced, strong enough to know it was alcoholic but not so sweet as to feel like a squash. We shared a starter of the Seared Scallops which were fluffy and light, the pea and bacon infused purée was plentiful and we left some in the bowl.
For main I opted for the Pan Seared Hake despite my aversion to fennel and was pleasantly rewarded. The white wine lobster sauce balanced out the aniseed flavour which I often find a little over powering. My fiancée had the Slow Roasted Pork with Crispy skin. Often I’ve found that pork belly in restaurants can lean heavily on the salt to create the flavour with this dish and that the fat is relied on to make up the bulk. In this case that wasn’t so. The portions were generous but not greedy and neither of us ordered a side yet felt very full with our shared Cheese Platter desert already ordered. The cheese platter was on the small side, I think we both would have been disappointed with the portion allocation had we not eaten so heartily during the main course. Despite being small the flavours were large and without a good port I think most diners would struggle with larger slices.
The final thing I really want to draw attention to though is our server. She was amazing. Single handedly taking orders for the entire 15 or so tables and yet not making anyone feel like they were waiting or hurried.
Overall this was one of our highlights of Copenhagen and when we saw the photos and heard the review of our friends trip to Noma we were left in little doubt we’d had the better...
Read moreI recently visited FEED Bistro with two friends, hoping for a memorable dining experience. Unfortunately, our visit turned out to be highly disappointing, leaving us with a sour taste in our mouths.
Upon arrival, we were informed that the restaurant was fully booked, but we decided to stay for drinks. Strangely enough, after an hour had passed, we noticed numerous unoccupied tables. This inconsistency in communication left us puzzled and wondering about the level of organization at FEED Bistro.
Eventually, we were granted a table to eat and proceeded to order a variety of starters and snacks (almost all of them), a bottle of wine, and main courses. The staff members were generally pleasant and accommodating, which initially gave us hope for a pleasant evening.
Regrettably, the scallops in the scallop ceviche were anything but fresh. The taste was off-putting, and it quickly became apparent that something was wrong. Some of us even had to rush to the bathroom to cope with the aftermath. We promptly returned the dish, expressing our dissatisfaction. While the restaurant offered to replace it, the unsettling experience left us unwilling to take any more chances. We declined their offer and instead informed them that the scallops were undoubtedly bad. The fact that they confirmed the issue was disconcerting, to say the least.
Moving on to the main courses, we found them to be merely average in taste. The beef Wellington, in particular, failed to impress, with the exception of the broccoli accompaniment, which was the standout component. Additionally, the temperature of the dishes was disappointingly cold, further detracting from the overall dining experience.
When it came time to settle the bill, we inadvertently paid without thoroughly checking the details. Later, we discovered that we were charged for the subpar scallops, prompting us to return to the restaurant and request a refund. This unfortunate oversight reinforced our growing disappointment with the establishment.
Overall, our visit to FEED Bistro left us thoroughly dissatisfied. The initial seating confusion, combined with the unacceptable quality of the scallops, lackluster main courses, and the billing error, created an underwhelming experience that we won't soon forget. We had hoped for a memorable evening filled with exceptional food and service, but instead, we were met with disappointment at every turn.
We sincerely hope that the management of FEED Bistro takes these criticisms constructively and addresses the issues we encountered, striving to provide a better dining experience for...
Read moreI had family members visiting me in Denmark all the way from South east asia, and we were eagerly anticipating to try the signature menu on Saturday evening.
What started as a pleasant evening with friendly waiters/waitresses and a tasty starter, ended in a very salty and disappointing main course, which was supposed to be the star of the show, and a lack of understanding and acknowledgement of the waiters of the disaster of the main course. The tenderloin itself was fine, the problem was the taste and excessive saltiness of the ham and mushroom duxulle. It was so salty that with every bite, we had to drink lots of water in order to "flush" it down. The broccolini were also very salty, but the shitake mushrooms were good. I also asked one of the nearby tables, who also had the wellington, if they also thought it was excessively salty, and they confirmed.
We asked the waiters if we could get the beef wellington changed as we couldn't eat it, but it wasn't possible nor do they have anything else to subsidize for it. At that time they only wanted to offer us one free drink on the house, but what we only wanted to drink at that time was water, because the food was so salty. Why would we want a free drink, when the problem is the main course?! So by just offering a free drink to compensate for a disaster of a main course is a lack of understanding of the customers situation - a lack of situational awareness or they just didn't care to make up for it and just hope that you're naive enough to go with it.
In the end, we just wanted to get it over with and so we removed the entire pastry including the ham and mushroom duxelle, cleaned the tenderloin, and just ate it like that. Is that how a beef wellington is supposed to be eaten and enjoyed? Because we did not enjoy that. We even asked the waiters to taste the pastry and it's contents, but they declined - they just didn't want to acknowledge it. Paying for the signiture dish with the beef wellington, but only eating it as a normal steak. In essence, we did not get what we paid for.
Because we just wanted this to end quickly, we asked the waiter for the dessert. Here they offered a free ice cream, which isn't even close to what we have lost with the beef wellington that we were looking so much forward to.
In conclusion, it started well but ended in a disaster and there were no compensation that reflects the value or quality of the beef wellington that we should have enjoyed, but could not. Stay away from this restaurant if you don't want your food to be salty, while not being fairly compensated for...
