Cairo Kitchen zamalek — Restaurant in Geziret al Zamalik, Jazirat al Zamalik

I was looking forward to eating here but was very disappointed. Firstly, a few items in the menu were not available (they did not have the dish of the day - chicken walnut, and the only juice available was hibiscus) and most of all, the meat and chicken were absolutely not fresh. We had the beef tagen with onions, the beef was tough as rubber, while the chicken in the muloukihya was very suspicious - tasted like the chicken had been boiled separately beforehand then frozen, and just dumped into the muloukhiya and reheated before serving. We had good food during our trip and this was probably the only disappointment, so sadly cannot give a good rating. The service is slow and inattentive. The tablecloths are dirty and old. The couch was dirty when we came to sit on it. The food is honestly mediocre. The fattoush salad was mid- had cumin and carrot which is very odd for an authentic fattoush. The okra was huge (size of each okra) and cooked unevenly (one was overripe and one was under). White rice was good, but you can’t mess that up. Mixed mahshi was disappointing. The taste of the mahshi was bland and nothing special, too much tomato and not enough herbs and flavor. everything was served with an excessive amount of (what tastes like canned) tomato sauce which drowned out the flavor of the food. We ate dinner here two weeks ago. When we arrived a young waiter took our orders and everything went well. Then the waiter was replaced by a bold and fat guy. We asked for the menu to look for a dessert. When he put it on the table he said you can take it home in an agressive sarcastic way. We ordered a sweet, it came in a closed plastic pack, we changed our mind and said it is ok, we will not take the dessert. He took it aggressively again and said "I will eat it.".
