Royal Bar — Restaurant in Luxor City

BEST DIRTY MARTINI I'VE EVER HAD.

Holy cow. Never thought I'd be drinking in this region less alone being charmed in such a beautiful hotel bar.

Located in the Winter Palace, this bar is set in very a smooth speakeasy, Hemmingway style. Excellent selection of liquor, and a well crafted cocktail menu. I highly recommend trying the "Howard Carter" to start your journey into the past.

Small dishes accompany every drink, which all seem to compliment the drink perfectly. The dirty martini was clearly made from fresh local olive juice that sent me straight to heaven.

Many of the bar staff speak a decent amount of English, and are very happy to engage with you in small talk. This bar has a very elegant, historical tone....

It still is a great bar, and the most beautiful in Luxor with great cocktails... But it is no longer an escape: it used to be very clear that no mobile phone calls etc. were allowed... They are still formally not allowed, but guests and staff don't care anymore it seems. This evening I sat through multiple phone conversations at top volume, with me even hearing what the person on the other side of the line said.... The guests making the calls were not even sitting close to me. Management: enforce the 'no phone calls rule', please. Guests can easily step out of the bar...

Smart casual only when indoors but you can wear casual in their garden or their Nile terrace. If you’re not guests, you can buy a voucher for 500 pounds at the reception. Garden was beautiful and the building is certainly storied (Howard Carter announced the discovery of Tutankhamen’s tomb here).
