10 points for atmosphere and our waiter Mihkel! The interior design is tastefully executed, I did feel like I was in France. Yes, maybe in Päris it's more aesthetic but I did not mind at all - French "arrogance" might be too risky. Food wise, the plating was done nicely, flavours were there but I felt the chef was a bit restrained and didn't express his talent fully. I do understand that Estonian customers are tricky ones and might not accept (understand) french bohemian attitude regarding food (if You don't like, go elsewhere!) but in my opinion, this place could carry it out.
One of my favourite French soups is Bisque, I love its creamy texture and deep flavours. Unfortunately Päris did not deliver. The texture was watery and flavours rather shallow - a bisque needs depth!
Tartare de Saumon (Salmon tartar) was silky and a truly enjoyable dish. I do recommend for the waiter to offer some good quality white pepper before the customer asks - it compliments the dish, makes it more fresh and brings out its flavours fully.
Avocat & Homard (Avocado Lobster salad) salad might be a bit over priced considering its looks but it was flavoursome.
Demi-Homard (Half lobster) was cooked nicely. I did miss a bit of poaching in butter but overall, it was a well executed dish (underpriced if You ask me), the lobster was tender and the topping had nice flavours to it - true classics . I'm a huge fan of hollandaise (and bearnaise) sauce, and unfortunately at Päris, the hollandaise was a letdown. It arrived lukewarm, a bit too eggy and no acidity in it what so ever.
Calamars Grillés (Stuffed squid) looked really good on the plate so expectations were high! Well, the star of that dish was that ratatouille - it was full of flavours and truly flavoursome. The squid filled with shrimp paste fell short - it was just some paste in squid.
Bœuf « PÄRIS » is a simple dish - one cannot hide mistakes when doing it so simple, and there was no need either! The main star meat was tender, cooking level medium rare (as it should be with entrecôte) , the sauce, roasted garlic and young potatoes suited the dish perfectly. 😉
Finally the desserts; Crème Brûlée was Crème Brûlée. Texture was correct, it tasted and looked exactly as this classics should. I'm glad the chef didn't start interpreting with this dish 😊
Secondly we had the ice cream (Crème Glacée) - it was perfection on the plate. The sauce, berries and soft creamy ice cream together was like a small orchestra, it ended our evening with a good bang!
We will definitely go back to this restaurant because we like it - it feels good! The tiny food issues are easy to fix and I'm sure Päris will get better and better. There is huge potential and I just hope that the chef will not fall into that "need to please everybody" Estonian bubble. I hope he sticks to French cuisine, takes a bit of that arrogance along the journey and...
Read moreI would like to give 3.6 stars but let's be generous and round it up to 4 stars. Pretty small place and felt a little bit cramped. We were seated under the window on the right side of the restaurant. View was nice but it was a little bit chilly and you could feel the draft when someone entered the restaurant. We ordered beef and duck as we usually do when visiting restaurants. Beef was nicely cooked and the pepper sauce was perfect with that. Potato boulangère with onions was a pretty good side dish for entrecote. The duck was a little bit let down this time. It was slightly over cooked and the skin wasn't perfect as we have had in some other restaurants. It was good but you could see that duck was ready before beef and that it had been sitting a little bit too long before bringing it to the table. Otherwise the flavours worked and still would recommend duck. For the dessert we had crème brulé and mille feuille. I really like that slight orange taste and orange slices on top of the crème brulé. I my opinion really well made crème brulé. Mille feuille was also really well made and tasted good. Service was so-so. It wasn't bad but not the best. So in conclusion, because of the cold draft, so-so service and slightly overcooked duck I can't give 5...
Read moreI came alone for dinner after an exhausting and difficult day. The restaurant was half-empty, but instead of greeting me warmly, the waiter arrogantly seated me at a table and walked away. I sat down and waited for the menu. However, the waitstaff, busy with their own tasks, completely ignored me—no one brought me a menu. At some point, I realized I could sit there endlessly, so I got up myself to ask for one.
After that, I placed my order, and to be fair, the food was excellent.
But it was incredibly unpleasant to see two other tables arrive later and immediately receive menus and water. How am I any different from them? Why did I have to sit and wait to be noticed by the waitstaff when they clearly weren’t busy?
Such arrogant behavior spoils the overall impression of the restaurant. The food is amazing, the interior is wonderful, but the service leaves much to be desired. If this establishment truly aims for a high standard, the waitstaff should treat all guests equally, regardless of how many people are at their table.
I am just as much a guest and also paying €18 for...
