The short: don’t bother if you’re not French.
We visited back in January and the waitress was rude and the service was terrible, but we chalked it up to an off day, you never know what people are dealing with.
We’re now back in Chamonix for 5 months and decided to give it another go.
We were seated easily enough as there were plenty of tables free, but then just left without menus. After 7 minutes or so a group of French customers came in and were greeted warmly, sat at the table next to us, given menus and asked if they wanted any drinks. In the time they ordered and their coffees were brought, we still hadn’t been brought a menu. We managed to make eye contact with someone and ask for one. That was the first major inconvenience for the staff, apparently.
Eventually someone came to take our order, which seemed to be huge inconvenience No.2, as he wasn’t happy about it, and was abrupt and unfriendly - we ordered 2 cheese and ham crepes, a Coke Zero and an orangina, nothing too taxing.
