We just completed a 7 night stay at Hotel Lyret. Overall this is a very nice 3 star hotel, it checks off all the boxes with one caveat....I'll explain further below. First the good points! Hotel is clean and well appointed for a european 3*. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. The hotel has a dedicated ski room with boot racks, sauna and steam room are very modern (not huge so could get cramped if busy - we never encountered any issues al week) Breakfast was excellent, high quality buffet which meets/exceeds european expectations. We really enjoyed the lounge with a fireplace and bar to kick up your feet after a large ski day. Location was also excellent. Walkable to both ski gondolas, and less than 5 min walk to downtown restaurants and bars. 5 min walk to chamonix central bus stop (ski busses to entire valley) and 15 min walk to chamonix sud bus stop (geneva airport shuttle drop off). So on to our room. We were initially assigned room 101, which had three issues. First was the noise outside. I know the hotel has no control over this but it is something to be aware of. Seems the street is used by many party goers late at night and we were routinely woken up several times a night. Earplugs are a necessity...The second was the view. Again, this is completely out of the control of the hotel, but this side of the hotel has (relatively) poor views of the mountains, and overlooks a construction site across the street. The last issue was a malfunctioning heat radiator which was stuck in full on hot. It took three days to get this resolved. There is a happy ending. After three nights in room 101 we decided to ask to be moved. The staff were very helpful and found us a different room in the back of the hotel. It was 20€ more per night but it transformed our stay. It was quiet, better appointed, had a balcony and fabulous views of Mont Blanc and Aguille du Midi. It was like we had moved to a different hotel!! Anyhow, had we been assigned the second room from the beginning, this would have been a slam-dunk 5* review. The 4* review takes into consideration the less than awesome experience in room 101. That said, I still highly recommend this hotel. It can be a warm and inviting home base for a Chamonix adventure.....if you are in the right room!!

NOISY. VERY NOISY. One side of the rooms face the road, on top of busy restaurants and near to town so people kept walking by. You can hear everything people were talking about. Eavesdropping is not even intentional. We could hardly sleep well. You would be surprised there are drunken people on sat night yelling at midnight and loud people walking by at 2am, people clapping in the restaurant and people slamming doors at 7am. The room door is ajar until u slam it close. Not the neighbours fault. You can also hear everything others are saying in the corridor. Dont tell us that we can keep windows close. NO. It is summer and there is no AC. We alternate between opening and closing and trust us we could hear the vehicles and loading and unloading of stuff even with windows closed. Crane & construction view. Not informed of this but I guess non balcony or non river view means as such. There is mountains at the back but what you really see is just the crane. Rooms are tiny but we are ok with it. The washroom has no hooks for towels. No problem, we hung it on hangers. NO. There is no ventilation in the room. Only pee in the room. Not sure how people get through winter. The best thing was the staff. They are very friendly and informative. They cant do much when there werent any rooms not facing the road. The view in the garden is great though. We didnt try the breakfast nor use their parking lot. At the price we pay at 180euros per night and we stayed 2 nights. No. We will not ever stay again. All we wanted was good night rest to go out enjoy the nature. Yes with good location comes a very big price. Very disappointed.

THEFT!! DO NOT STAY!

I stayed here for 4 nights with my significant other and on the 3rd night of our stay, we came back to the hotel at 9pm and found my wallet and all of my jewelry had been stolen. Worst of all, the theft had used my debit card 7 times.

I immediately told the front desk and had to wait for the director of the hotel to talk to us. When he finally came to the front desk, the first thing he told me was I should have kept my belongings in the safe. Having this as his first reaction makes me believe workers stealing out of hotel rooms has happened before.

The director did not seem to care whatsoever this had happened to me in his own hotel. He brushed it off and told me he wouldn’t check who entered the hotel room until the next day. When the next day came, you would think if a guest has had their belongings stolen, it would be the first priority to contact the guest, but NO. We did not receive help or receive any information until 2PM and this was after we had to wait 3 hours to speak to the director.

I am less upset about the money and jewelry being stolen, but rather upset about the lack of communication from the director/staff when this happened. No compensation was offered for the stolen items. When I emailed the hotel to ask for some sort of compensation, we simply did not get an answer. I have waited almost 1 month to write this review in hopes the hotel would answer my email, but after no response, I feel this review is needed to protect future guests.

There are plenty of other hotels to stay at Chamonix, do...
