I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Le Monchu in Chamonix, and I must say it was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. My friends and I decided to try their fondue, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment.
First of all, the fondue was incredibly watery. It lacked the creamy, indulgent consistency that one would expect from a good fondue. It was a major letdown, as we were really looking forward to enjoying a delicious, cheesy meal.
But that wasn't the worst part. As we continued eating, we noticed something horrifying. The bread we had been dipping into the fondue was moldy. Yes, you read that correctly. The bread we were served was white and green, clearly indicating that it was covered in mold. It was utterly disgusting and unacceptable.
Naturally, we immediately called over our server to complain and requested to speak with the manager. The server took the moldy bread away and returned with the manager, who brazenly claimed that the bread was not moldy. We were shocked at his audacity, especially considering we had taken a photograph as evidence of the mold. Reluctantly, he agreed that the bread was indeed expired but failed to offer any apology or show any remorse for serving such hazardous food.
What was even more concerning was their complete disregard for our safety. They had served us moldy bread, a clear health hazard, and yet they seemed unfazed by the seriousness of the situation. It was absolutely appalling.
To make matters worse, when we expressed our dissatisfaction and insisted that we should not have to pay for such a terrible experience, the manager became extremely rude and started screaming at us. His behavior was completely unprofessional and unacceptable.
In the end, we had to stand our ground and firmly refuse to pay for the meal. It was a battle we shouldn't have had to fight, considering the extent of their negligence and the potential health risks they exposed us to.
Le Mochu's complete disregard for food safety, the lackluster fondue, and the disrespectful behavior of their manager made this dining experience an absolute nightmare. I strongly advise anyone considering dining at Le Mochu to think twice and choose a different establishment. Your health and well-being should never be compromised in such a...
Read moreDear Le Monchu Team,
I recently visited your restaurant on the evening of August 24th, and it was an experience that went far beyond just the food. From the moment we arrived, even without a reservation, your staff welcomed us warmly and found us a table right away. The hospitality was truly exceptional. Having traveled to over a hundred countries, I can honestly say that your restaurant stands out. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I believe that 70% of the experience is about hospitality—and you all deserve 1000% for both hospitality and food. It felt authentic and unique.
I was curious about the cheese you used and your interior décor, and even though you were busy, you answered all my questions with a smile. The food was delicious, and the view of the mountains from our table was stunning.
After we left, we reached our Geneva hotel at 11:30 p.m. and I realized I had forgotten my wallet. Unsure where exactly I left it, and with an early morning flight the next day, I called the restaurant on the way back to Chamonix, even though you were officially closed. Simon answered the phone and asked if I was looking for my wallet. I can’t explain how relieved I felt in that moment. Even though you were closed, Simon said you could wait for us—I know that isn’t easy, and I deeply appreciate it.
When we arrived, our waitress—whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch—truly stood out as one of the best servers I’ve ever encountered. As she was finishing her shift and walking with a friend, I accidentally startled her when I reversed my car to say hello. She was initially surprised and even a bit scared and started running 🏃♀️ lol, but my wife reassured her. She kindly remembered us and offered to help, quickly coordinating with Simon to return my wallet. This gesture went far beyond what I could have expected, and I am deeply grateful. You waited for us and returned it with a smile at 12:30 a.m. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness.
To everyone on the team: even though I don’t know all your names, please accept my heartfelt thanks. If any of you ever find yourselves in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or the Netherlands, please reach out—I would love to return the favor.
Thank you again, and I look forward to visiting...
Read moreThe worst restaurant experience I’ve had in my entire life . We waited way too long to get menus, our order taken, bread and even water. We had to ask for all of these things. I ordered a green salad for appetizer (5.50 EUR) and scallops for main dish (29 EUR). My brother and dad received their appetizers while I kept waiting and waiting. The waitress never checked on us once and actively avoided eye contact while continuously serving the party behind us (who arrived after us and already had their food by the time we ordered our food) and I still did not have my green salad after 20 minutes (how hard is a green salad to put together?). Eventually my father got fed up and confronted the manager who did not handle the situation professionally at all. Even though my father said we will stay, and the waitress apologized for not bringing the green salad, they cancelled the rest of our order and waited for us to leave, taking care of the two appetizers we did receive. We stayed for 15 more minutes out of miscommunication waiting for someone to serve us, and eventually had to flag a waiter down who asked what the problem was and that they thought we wanted them to cancel our order. He mentioned the waitress had considered the green salad my main dish so did not bring it out with the appetizers - how is a 5.5 EUR “green salad” a main? Completely disappointed by the lack of service and the way they treated us. Avoid this restaurant, especially if...
