Côté Marché bistrot Cannes — Restaurant in Grasse

We were lucky to get a table here without a reservation for lunch, but on the promise of being finished within the hour, we managed to secure a table. This is a reasonably small restaurant with limited seating inside and somewhat more tables outside. The owner is very pleasant, as is his chef. The kitchen is very small but very efficient.

We ordered the foie gras as a starter, which was really excellent. My partner opted for the veal kidneys in a mustard cream sauce while I chose the fisherman's dish, comprising mussels, squid, octopus, prawns, green salad with onions and aïoli.

The kidneys were cooked beautifully; pink as requested, and the sauce was rich and flavoursome. The sautéed potatoes had a rather overpowering taste, however, and clashed a bit with the kidneys and may have benefitted from a light, creamy garlic mash instead, along with some green beans, rather than the strongly dressed salad.

The fisherman's dish was nicely presented, and the squid literally melted in the mouth. The aïoli sauce was pretty robust, but not overly. The octopus was really quite cold and would have benefited from being at room temperature.

Overall, though, this was a really fine meal, with friendly service, and was very reasonably priced. We will definitely be back next time we...

We have spent 5 days in Cannes and have had lunch at côté marché 3 times - because it was just perfect! If we would have stayed any time longer, we would have definitely revisited the restaurant. We’ve ordered different meals each time, everything was served on point. The service was great, the bathroom was clean - we felt welcome as customers, every time. Depending on the time you want to eat, it can happen that you have to wait for a few minutes - but don’t be mad, it is worth it. We were warmly greeted and seated by the friendly and accommodating owner, which set the tone for a great dining experience. He promptly took our order, and the service throughout was attentive and efficient. We had the steak tartare, octopus with sautéed vegetables, seafood pasta, and a side of French fries — everything was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious.
