These folks are the real deal, incredible French food, fantastic service. They're charming and they care deeply about you having a great experience. They speak English as well as French, so don't worry about that.
I had the best steak of my LIFE and my husband said his lamb chops were life-changing, especially because lamb is so easy to screw up. We came back the next night because we were so charmed and the fish was at the same level. We go to Paris at least once a year for family, so it's not like we didn't know other options-- This was worth it.
The wine list was very approachable, but also really interesting. My husband used to be a sommelier and he and the owner spoke at length regarding some of the options. The way both the owner and the server (who have been best friends since they were children and you can tell, they vibe great) would get really excited to discuss options and make sure we're having a good time was so endearing. They really understand that good food/wine is like a core memory to be made.
I have recommended this place to every colleague and family member I know for when they're in Paris. It's worth a 30 minute walk, if you have to, but it's in a convenient location otherwise (8 min from Notre Dame, but feels like a neighborhood spot). Give yourself an authentic meal in Paris and put yourselves in their hands. You...
Read moreNewly reopened as Artaban, this restaurant has an updated menu and outdoor seating. The food was absolutely delicious. My husband and I ordered lamb chops à point, which were perfectly cooked and just delicious, without too much fat. The appetizers we ordered, the burrata and tomato entrée and the carpacicio of melon amd olives, were fresh and refreshing, and our desserts equally good and topped off the meal. The wine we ordered was also excellent. The only quibble we had was the paucity of chops (just two), but Fabrice, the owner, agreed that he would keep the price down by keepimg the two.chops on the menu and offerimg additional chops if desired, byl adding a supplement for each. In view of the restaurant's reasonable prices, even adding a supplement will bring the cost of the chops up to average prices for most restaurants. At the moment, just the owner and his colleague, both charming men, serve the clientele, but as vacationers return and the restaurant gets better known, I'm sure more help will be required. Unfortunately for us, Artaban will be closed the day before we leave. Otherwise we would have returned within the next few days-- the sign of a good restaurant. We will certainly plan to return when we come back...
Read moreThe small but balanced menu is based on the freshness and the high quality of the ingredients. The tartar, a unique combination, was a pleasant surprise! The escargot came sizzling hot and very tasty. The lamb chops were nicely cooked, served with a very well-worked potato purée. The flank steak, cooked medium rare as I requested, was perhaps the most tender meat I ever had! All the dishes were perfectly seasoned, without excess herbs and spices, resulting in clear, crisp flavours of the main ingredients. The manager suggested a white wine, which was a perfect match for the escargot and a light choice for a hot August night. For desert, we had a delicate pavlova with caramelised pistachios, and vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso and crispy hazelnuts. The flavors were, again, well-defined and balanced. The staff was pleasant, polite and helpful, even though we do not speak french. The atmospere inside can be characterized as simple, modern and elegant. It is also very nice to sit outside, as the...
