For starters, they cook the food ONLY in microwaves. They have 5 or 6 of them...they are the entire kitchen!
Our burritos were garbage. Gross. The vegetarian burrito was pretty much all-potatoes and a little bit of cheese. It was soggy (because it wasn't baked), and without flavour. Mexican food uses Mexican spices, ladies. You got it wrong. The beef burrito was low on flavour and high on filler. Sloppy, with nasty red sauce clearly out of a can. There is NO excuse for this tasteless, poorly-made, jive food.
The two women who ran the place were rude from the minute we walked in. I'm a seasoned French traveler, fluent in French, and well-accustomed to proper French manners and social interactions. These two women are the worst we met on this particular trip. They are crabby, rigid, and unashamed of the low quality of their product.
The restaurant is a dusty mess, with boxes everywhere. Bottles of hot sauce were spilling out onto the floor near our table. So cluttered that the women stood behind the register and made me shout my order across the restaurant (that is NOT the French way), despite offering "table service."
Get it together. Take a cooking class and learn some manners. Maybe show up to work a little early and clean the place...
Read moreFor years something of a guilty pleasure, the Trash-Mex (not an autocorrect error, that) “Mexi & Co.” has since my last visit just months prior to the pandemic become a place to avoid. The place has long suffered from neglectful service, and the restaurant has never taken credit cards or even been reliably capable of making change for Euro notes offered in payment, but the food was tasty enough and the price was good (especially for the lunch menu, which — sadly — no longer exists). No more. Today I dropped 21€ for a paltry queso fundido, a burrito with a smattering of thin guacamole, and a 25ml Coca-Cola (a lunch that not long ago could be had for 10€ with a 33ml Coca-Cola). And on the subject of that soft drink, I was surprised to be offered the smaller Coca-Cola for my 3€, yes, but was even more surprised when I saw another patron sitting right next to me receive a 33ml Cola-Cola with their meal. And to top it all off, my request for a pitcher of water was acknowledged and immediately ignored.
Oner the 20+ years I have lived in Paris I have taken many a lunch at Mexi & Co., and today I did so for...
Read moreI used to love this place but it also used to be one of the only Mexican restaurants in Paris. Now there are many and this place has gone way downhill. There was no soap in the restroom so I asked for some as we'd been in the metro. They looked lost and panicked and eventually the server went with a cup to borrow some from a neighboring cafe. Then I specifically stated that I was ordering for a small child who doesn't handle spicy foods well, so I was surprised to receive his food slathered in salsa that was chock full of jalapeno seeds. My son ended up eating my soggy, microwaved nachos and I suffered silently through his burrito. Upon leaving I suggested very politely that they let people know that they serve a wet burrito and give them the option of forgoing the salsa. The reply was, "This is a Mexican restaurant, you should know the food will be spicy!" Um, Lady, I'm from L.A. and the actual Mexican restaurants owned by actual Mexican folk always respect a request for no salsa and most give some indication of spice level on...
