My last visit to Paris....over 10 years ago...left memories of the food as...mediocre. Maybe my previous trip's expectations were falsely high... not the case this time.
Le Bistrot d'Arene reminded me of the pleasure of good food. It is not a formal restaurant...rather, a family run bistro with a warm street side ambiance.
The food was excellent. In a world of mass produced food and profit oriented restaurants...our palates forget the warm depth of a tasty bite...repeated until the plate is mournfully over.
The service was excellent. The young lady, daughter of the owner, was helpful and informative.
The ambiance off a side street was homely.
Just slightly off the beaten path...but still close to the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe, it is close to the masses of touristy restaurants and convenient.

Read moreWe were late getting back into central Paris after a morning at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in the Bois de Boulogne. It was nearly 2pm and looking at the restaurants around the bus stop of the foundations little bus we were struggling to find somewhere for lunch. We found this bistro and decided to give it a go. We were so warmly welcomed that we felt we were going to be ok! It wasn’t busy as it was late for lunch in Paris but our waitress rushed around making us comfortable getting us our order quickly and efficiently. Simple but tasty lunch of Egg Mayo followed by steak with pepper sauce for me and the fish of the day for my sister. It was freshly cooked, hot and delicious. We really enjoyed it! This is a handy place having got off the navette from the Louis Vuitton Foundation, or having visited the Arc du Triomphe. We enjoyed this place, it was very relaxed and...

We almost had the restaurant to ourselves which was nice. The service was friendly and incredibly welcoming.
I had the beef tartare which was served already mixed. I hadn’t had it like this before but it was very good. The others had a burger, steak with pepper sauce and a fish dish. Everyone liked their meals a lot.
We had some desserts which were equally good. The French toast with salted caramel was incredibly soft and really delicious. The chocolate mousse was a generous serving and very smooth. Thé flambée apple tartine was quite the show and full of boozy flavour.
We capped it all off with some fabulous espresso martinis.
This was a great restaurant which felt like visiting a friends house. The menu was small but varied and the service...
