Boulangerie LIBERTÉ — Restaurant in Paris

Absolutely awful experience at this bakery. The staff serving the pastries were incredibly rude. I tried to order a pain au chocolat and, because I didn’t pronounce it perfectly, they started laughing at me and mocking me among themselves. Really professional, right?

Then, when I asked something in English, they deliberately refused to answer in anything but French. It’s honestly ridiculous that in a European capital—especially Paris, one of the most visited cities in the world—bakery staff can’t be bothered to speak even a little English.

If they’re incapable of learning another language while working in tourism and hospitality, the least they could do is not make fun of people who are actually trying. It’s ironic how they expect others to speak perfect French while they themselves can’t even manage a basic conversation in a second language. Arrogance...

I recently visited the 'Liberté' bakery, drawn in by its charming appearance which promised an experience worthy of a true Parisian bakery.

Unfortunately, the illusion quickly faded. The quality of the bread leaves much to be desired. The baguette, priced at 1.40 euros, turned out to be a major disappointment. Instead of the airy crumb and crispy crust one expects from authentic French bread, I was greeted by a rubbery and dense product.

As evidenced by the photo I took, the dough did not have the characteristic open structure of a well-mastered bake. It's a disgrace for a bakery of this stature, located in a busy shopping area, to not uphold the fundamental recipes that make French bread renowned.

I came to this bakery and got 2 pain au chocolate and the girl on the till charged me 7,22€. I didn't think anything of it for a few seconds and gave her the money and then realised I probably got scammed and then I turned to see if they had any prices and the prices were beside each pastry and the pain au chocolat were 1,70€ each which I was supposed to pay 3,40€ for the two but she charged me way more and she didn’t even give me a receipt! I asked her why she charged me that much and she pretended she couldn’t understand what I was saying but I already paid and couldn’t do anything about it so I just left.
