The best meal we have had in Paris. We travel to Paris frequently with this being our first time dining at Chez Georges. I was able to secure a 7:30pm reservation via email in advance. Reservations are a must unless perhaps you are a local regular - of which there appeared to be many based on the warm and personalized welcome many patrons received from the staff as if old friends.
Atmosphere: 10/10. The restaurant is cozy and narrow with tables literally touching one another, allowing capacity seating as it was full by the time our mains arrived to the table. Staff must pull the table entirely away from the built in banquet seating so you can squeeze in to sit. So cozy there is no room for your coat or bag which you can either leave at the front on a rack or put behind you on the banquet ledge. This only adds to the charm. Lighting was low level and perfectly suited for a magical mood on a rainy January 4th evening!.
FOOD 11/10: The menu is quite large and includes bistro classics but also dishes we have not seen on other menus (grilled veal kidneys in cream sauce). Loved that seemingly handwritten in the left margin of the menu there are wine pairing suggestions for most Dishes.
We started with the chicken liver terrine which was divine- especially paired with the local bread (shamelessly we ate a whole basket worth). Staff kept the Beaujolais flowing as we moved to our mains. My husband ordered the medium rare perfectly cooked Lamb Chop Cutlets served with freshly seasoned green beans while I ordered the house specialty Coeur de Filet de Boeuf Bearnaise served with crispy fries. My generously sized grilled beef filet was prepared medium rare with the most flavorful seasoning which only enhanced the flavor of the filet when paired with the rich and thick Bearnaise sauce. My husband's lamb was tender and flavorful. Again- Beaujolais was a flowin’.
We ended the evening with that night’s dessert special of rice pudding in caramel sauce. It was so insanely good that we continue to discuss wishing we could have it back home in Indiana which sadly we cannot.
SERVICE 10/10: Attentive, thoughtful, professional, and seemingly having a good sense of humor with a dash of patience as I engaged en français with limited ability when ordering and chatting. Prices are 100% on point,. The evening ended with La Bise /air kisses on each cheek by the wonderfully charismatic Maître ‘d /Owner at the front. Clearly a favorite among the locals who seemed to be undoubtedly the majority of the patrons- always a good sign!
We will absolutely dine here again on our next visit. Cannot recommend enough! Thank you for a much needed magical...
Read moreIf you enjoy paying 40 Euro for a Coeur du filet which is obviously not the heart but rather the end of the filet, cut along the fibers and not against and badly cooked, this is the place! If you prefer getting plates mixed with your company so that both of you get the meat grilled the wrong level, you should go here! If you like not be able to eat at the same time ever during your meal because of errors caused by the staff and then as the only compensation, get a glass of cognac after....this is really it! If your idea of good service is when you complain about it, you are met with total ignorance and lack of understanding the disappointment, book a table! Despite a totally ruined birthday, nothing was taken off the bill such as water, coffee etc, and when mailing our thoughts about the evening....we got the explanation that everything was correctly handled even though the manager could "understand our frustration". The request of getting compensated for the BAD meat was not heard. This used to be the best of places, but after going here for more than 30 years it´s now good-bye! Paris has 30 000 other restaurants to choose from... After response and reply to the direction; *This was a 50-years birthday-dinner. Would you say it was a success? *Everything "was not fine" when we left, I didn´t want to ruin the night even more. *Its not ok to sell something and then serve something else. A Coeur de filet is a coeur de filet, period. *This is my first bad review ever. You had a many possibilities to avoid one. I never asked for the money back except for the meat. *A glass of brandy is never a compensation for a bad meal. Only...
Read moreI recently visited a restaurant that, while offering decent food, left much to be desired in terms of service. The culinary experience was satisfactory; the dishes were well-prepared and flavorful, aligning with expectations for a decent dining establishment. However, the service aspect significantly detracted from the overall experience.
One of the main issues we encountered involved a simple request to try a sample of the wine before ordering . Unfortunately, the waiter informed us that this was against the restaurant's policy, as per the owner's instructions. This was disappointing, as tasting wine before purchasing is a common practice in many establishments and contributes to a more tailored and enjoyable dining experience.
Additionally, we felt a noticeable push from the service staff to order certain dishes that we weren't particularly interested in. This type of upselling felt overly aggressive and not in tune with our preferences or desires as customers. It's crucial for a restaurant to recommend dishes based on the customer's interests rather than pushing items for the sake of higher sales.
In conclusion, while the food at this restaurant can be considered decent, the service left a lot to be desired. The inability to sample wine and the pushy nature of the service detracted from what could have been a much more enjoyable dining experience. It's essential for restaurants to remember that the quality of service is just as important as the quality of food in creating a memorable and pleasant...
