they serve the leftover to Asian!!! I notice my bread come with my order is already eaten half. I politely ask the waiter give me a new basket of bread. He removed that piece and serve the exactly same basket back to me. I hand up to a waitress, she asked do i want a bill, I shake my head left to right, which means NO! Then she came back with credit card machine and insist me to pay, I explained to her politely and asked her to give me the new basket of bread because I took photo, I know this is the same old leftover basket of bread. She then pissed off why I don’t just pay and leave. She walk away and complain to all her colleagues. I refuse to talk to her and instead I want to pay with the other employee and get the bread I deserve. The another employee make an excuse that bread is free, so it’s NORMAL to give leftover. Since i finished my meal, they will not give me bread. Excuse me? Bread is NOT free. If I do not order anything, will you give me free bread? Why don’t you go on street and give free bread to all homeless if you think your bread is offer for free? The reason I get bread is because I pay for my meal. The bread is something little come along with order, it is NOT free! And the stupid waitress keep bothering and raise her voice try to make me looks bad. That’s funny. Because I can raise my voice and make your restaurant looks bad as well. You think Asian people are shy and easy to beat? NOT ME! You fight with wrong person! What a stereotype. And I ask for manager, she then say she is the manager. This is the classics French trick! Ladies and gentlemen, take notes now. When every time the stupid employee make mistakes and you ask for escalate to manager, this employees will all the sudden give themselves a managers title in order to stop your escalation. What a stupid trick want to fool Asian?? The whole store is like fast food, like Macdonald, they give you food in one minute, probably microwave Picard dishes. And give you leftover bread from one table to another table to cost down and then rush you to pay and rush you out...
Read moreOf all the bistro fare we experienced in Paris, Victoire is definitely our favorite so far. The welcome from the young staff is warm yet casual, and it’s a delight to watch them work so efficiently as a team. We had a table by a window facing the bar so we had a good angle on all the busy activity which is part of the entertainment of people watching at a fast paced bistro. There was a steady flow of diners coming in and out which is a testament to the efficient service and the bistro policy of “no reservations needed.”
We loved our starters: ouefs mayonnaise and the BEST ONION SOUP we have had in France. The kichen is not afraid to season at Victoires, and it shows in the depth of flavor of these two dishes with the soup of course requiring much more technique, however eggs mayonnaise is deceptively simple because it is a dish that can be mismanaged as we have seen previously. The bread is fantastic: crusty yet also chewy and yielding crumb. It was a perfect accompaniment to the eggs and the elixir soup which I have contemplated returning to consume today, time willing.
I was not as thrilled with my main: roast chicken with mash and gravy, all of which was super bland and the chicken didn’t taste fresh and to add insult to injury, everything was room temperature not even approaching warm. Jules’ duck leg confit with sarladaises potatoes (fried potatoes with garlic and parsley) were quite yum though, the duck was well seasoned, hot and flavorful.
In spite of the efficient service allowing the endless parade of diners going in and out of this fairly small bistro, we never felt rushed and were well taken care of by the staff. We ended the meal with coffee and shared profiteroles, which we are also probably the best that we’ve had so far in Paris.
The meal was not only quite good, it was also a relatively great bargain at €50 for the two of us. I would not hesitate to return...
Read moreIf you’re a tourist and come in tired, thirsty, and hungry, don’t expect them to treat you right. I came in here about two hours ago and was sat across from some older tourists who I saw a few minutes later tell three staff members that one of the dishes brought to then, duck confit, wasn’t something they ordered. After some whispering off to the side, someone else tried to serve it to them. They refused again and an argument ensued between the waitress and other customers. The waitress took the duck confit in the back. Meanwhile I waited quite a while to even get to order. When I finally did order, I ordered the roasted chicken au jus. Almost immediately my order came out, but it didn’t look like chicken. I immediately attempted to get the attention of my waitress who literally ran away and side-eye ignored me. Other staff ignored me as well. When the bill came for my meal, they tried to charge me for duck confit. Every interaction I had was with a different waiter or waitress, mind you, so they clearly were communicating with each other and decided to create confusion for me. In any case I brought up the issue and despite their clear displeasure I had the price corrected for the cheaper roasted chicken. The staff were clearly upset because they could see I figured out how they tried to trick me and make a fool out of me. The lack of professionalism and lack of decency made me leave very upset and disappointed by what I thought was going to be a nice dinner. Unless you also want to be served what others sent back to the kitchen and tricked about it - DO NOT DINE HERE. I will never be coming back here and will let everyone I know who visits Paris to...
