Look no further for the local cafe experience. This is not the cafe with staff in white uniform and different roles. and fancy computer screens catering to tourists at the 30 euro per plate range. Nor is it overly casual that they don’t care for tourist business. Our host was capable in English but remained courteous and polite to engage with me in my intermediate French. He was professional, personable and helpful.
The food was fantastic, customised to our requests (putting things on the side, avoiding dairy/egg contact, beef cooking levels), and served at the same time with attention and purpose from the staff. Plates were in the sub 20 euro range, very reasonable portions and well prepared. It is only steps away from Trocadero and because it is 1-2 blocks up from the main roundabout, prices were 10 euro cheaper per plate.
The beef tartare was excellent, well-mixed, and served at a lightly cool temperature, served with salad and fries. Duck confit and rump steak both cooked perfectly.
Great for families as we didn’t want to be overly pampered from eager wait staff, nor rushed out and didn’t want to pay too much.
The only downside is that the cigarette smoke from the customers sitting outside kept blowing inside towards us. But that is a Paris-wide cafe issue.
Highly recommended and would love to...
Read moreWe were here in 2015 and the food was excellent. Couldn't wait to come back in September 2016. Unfortunately they have a new chef and menu, and the food is terrible. At 9 PM on a Saturday it should have been packed, but there was almost no one there. How can you wreck onion soup? By burning the cheese and crouton and stirring twigs into the broth. The lamb was cooked to death (tasted boiled), the chicken was baked in a sauce worthy of an airline dinner (there's a reason why most restaurants want hens - this chef thinks a "cockerel" is something special. It's not.). And I haven't seen green beans that color since a pitch in dinner at my Masonic lodge.
I give a second star solely to our waitress who was attentive and very good. (And darling.) The food's not her fault. A year ago we regretted not having another night to return. Tonight, we couldn't get out fast enough. The owner needs to get rid of his chef quick before he ruins the...
Read moreThis out of the way gem is well worth the walk away from the Eiffel Tower hustle and bust. We stayed a few steps away from the place and tried it for breakfast and dinner. Each time was great! Dinner time was magnificent as the service and food was awesome. When we walked in, I made an effort to speak the language and that won the staff over. I ordered wine (3X) which was succulent and the onion soup is a must try. We shared a (1 kg) steak which was superb with fries and two different sauces for the steak. All of that with bread and salad and the bill was less than I normally pay in the U.S. with much better flavor. All in all, if you stay nearby this area, do yourself a favor and try this place. You will...
